Just to get the record straight, I am right in thinking as it stands today regarding Kai & wireless setups the configurations that work are as follows at the moment:

PC hard wired to router / Xox wireless via bridge to router

PC wireless link to router / Xbox Hard wired to router

Not:

PC wireless link to router / Xbox wireless via bridge to router

If the above is still correct will we see a fix in the future to allow both to be connected by wireless or is it something that can not be over come? Or has something changed recently that I have missed in the forum.

Cheers Confused

No - imagine the PC... and imagine sending data to a console from it.. whichever nic that data goes out of, cannot be wireless... thats the only condition..

Expanding on that.. you could have a wireless PC with an XBox hard-wired to the PC.

So does that mean that if I have a wireless network card in my PC that is used exclusively as a bridge to my Xbox it won't work?

I have an Inexq CR054G - Wireless 54G PCI Adapter and an Inexq HR054G - 54G Wireless Access Point that I have installed to allow me to stream/download data to my XBox from my PC without using unsightly wires.

To use Kai will I need to drag a wire or will the setup suffice?

After a bit more reading I've had an idea - what do you think of this:

Wireless PC -> Laptop (using wireless access point) -> Hardwired to Xbox (using crossover cable)

The laptop would be running Kai so this should be fine - correct?

The only thing that is getting me now is how hard will it be to setup the network for the 2 PCs plus allowing the lappy to access the internet via the main PC - I had a go once and it was a nightmare.

You should be able to get that to work as long as Kai is running on the laptop.

You will also need to forward a port on your PC to the Laptop

If you enable ICS on the PC that is connected to the internet, you should be able to connect up to 10 pc's to it's wireless card.
Don't use Bridging, use ICS!

It might be easyer to just go pick up a Wireless Access Router/Switch Then you could Hardwire your one PC and take it out of the picture (as well as any other pc's or move the wireless card to one of your other pc's), then just run kai on the wireless laptop that is connected directly to the xbox.

Screw all that - I've just ordered a 30m RJ45 cable.

I'll just plug it in when I want to go online Very Happy

What if you're not using a bridge for anything (unless that is just automatic). I know there is an option to make a bridge in XP but is 'bridging' (via bridge as has been put here) just:

Wireless PC / Wireless Xbox ?

I have a wireless adapter in my PC, and the Wireless Xbox adapter but I haven't set up a bridge, so I was just wondering if that's what you mean by via bridge or if I am just not making any sense because it's the same thing.

Nice to know that the following method don't work:

>> Pc -> wireless to router | router | router ->hardwired to xbox

This doesn't make any sense!

If I use XBConnect; with my wireless Dlink DWL-650+ wireless adaptor (TI chipset inside); it just WORK FLAWLESS THIS WAY!!!!

This chipset IS capable to do mac translation.

But when i wanted to make us of XLink Kai.... It seems that XLink just have problems to detect my xbox. How long it searches for my xbox, it just never detects it.

I tried to do also MAC translation in Wireless setup; real MAC adres Xbox -> translated MAC adres wireless card. This is even not nesesary with XBConnect!
But even this don't help either to get Xlink work with my wireless adapter.

So my opinion is that XLink is just not finalized.

PLEASE, CAN YOU INVESTIGATE THIS STRANGE BEHAVIOUR OF XLINK AGAINST XBCONNECT?! Confused WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

First off m8, we are not XBConnect.
Second >> Pc -> wireless to router | router | router ->hardwired to xbox means Wireless PC connected to a wireless router/access point and the Xbox hardwired to the router. Seems simple.

As for your problem with not detecting your Xbox, information like, "My Xbox is on and in system link mode" but I still don't see my Xbox in the performance option. In that case you have a problem and need to research some things or provide more information into your exact problem.

Heh. I have THAT EXACT wireless PCMCIA card.

It doesn't have the TI chipset, but InterSil (mine seems to anyway). We say that this stuff doesn't work because 99% of wireless hardware will not work in that fashion. Instead of saying it does and getting 32942048 people say how, we say that it doesn't work.

I've tried millions of times to get it to work on both Kai and XBC and nothing works. I'd like to know how you got it to work...

First:

Yes, I know that XBConnect is not the same as XLink. ?! Rolling Eyes
But i prefer XLink because it's better organised and XBMC works with it.
I use XBMC as my main XBOX dash.

second:

Dlink has sold different versions of DWL-650+ pccards.
The last ones are equipped with the new TI chipsets and comply with turbospeeds of 22MBps on plain 802.11b networks!
The older versions are build with Intersil chipsets.

Thirth:

TI chipset IS capable to do MAC translation and packet sniffing.
Intersil unfortunate not; but possibly with the new TURBO mode update firmware from theire site it works now? Just to try.
AMD Alchemy chipsets defenitely NOT work (i have an SMC wireless card with those... NO Go!)
I found a while ago a website with a compactibiltylist from wireless adaptewrs with WinPcap. Unfortunate i don't know were to find it... Crying or Very sad

Fourth:

As because i have an TI chipset; it just work FLAWLESS with XBConnect.
But again, even what i try, I NEVER get it work with XLink Kai.
So, My believe is strongly that XLink uses WinPcap not the same as XBconnect, or uses maybe not the same commands. I don't know. But it just will not work?!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Fifth:

Maybe the programmers of XLink Kai can have contact with the ones from XBConnect to discuss this matter.
IT IS PROVEN, THAT SOME WIRELESS CHIPSETS / CARDS JUST WORK FLAWLESS WITH A FULL WIRELESS NETWORK. The chipset of the cards must be capable to do packetsniffing. or else it jsut never work

I found the following link.
http://www.stolenshoes.net/sniph/aerosol-0.65-readme.html

here is Intersill Prism chipset cards used with WinPcap software!
including DWL -650..

Just give it a try.

And here i finally found the list with Wireless adapters which are working with WinPcap! Very Happy

http://home.comcast.net/~jay.deboer/airsnare/supported.htm

So there's has to be work done with Xlink to get (fully) wireless networks possible.

Hehe, we don't exactly have good relations with Tod (XBC).

Yes, we do know this works, but only for those few cards that do support MAC translation. We'll look into this however.

MAC translation on Kai is badly untested.. I dont mind saying..

If your kit works on XBC, I can make it work here - but you need to MSN me on flat235@hotmail.com

It might be quite involved (ie me making numerous test builds and asking you to run them).

But I would certainly be interested in trying..
