XLink Kai 7.4 Skinning Thread.

To anyone who needs a noob tut on how to run the webui in dev mode, follow these steps (for windows)....

1. Create a shortcut from kaiEngine.exe to the desktop
2. Go into the properties in that shortcut
3. Locate target
4. You should something like "C:\Program Files\XLink Kai\kaiEngine.exe"
5. Add --dev after the quotes
6. Now you should have something like "C:\Program Files\XLink Kai\kaiEngine.exe" --dev
7. Go back to the "C:\Program Files\XLink Kai" folder and make a new folder called "htdocs"
8. Inside htdocs make another folder called "skins"
9. Place your skin folder in the "skins" folder so it looks like this "C:\Program Files\XLink Kai\htdocs\skins\yourskin\skin.css\img"
10. Now launch the kaiEngine from that shortcut to normally start the webui in dev mode.
11. In the chat type /skin your skinname and it will load your skin from the "htdocs\skins" folder

(This tut is to help those load custom skins)

I've added the " --dev" to the target and tryed added friends skins in the application folder where the rest of the skins are and i could never get them to showup. I end up haven them turn out to be 1 kb zip files which is weird cause i just barly put them into the folder. Whenever i tryed to do the "/skin (skins name)" I also like krayzie has sayed, goes to the default skin for XLink, Weird dont know why it does that but just does. Any help would be greatfuly excepted

TT did you make a folder in the C:/Program Files/XLink Kai folder called htdocs. it should go...

C:/Program Files/XLink Kai/htdocs/skins/yourskinfolder

if its not like that it wont work

also NOTE: i will be redoing the h3 theme to make it look more stylish and nicer. The progress of it will be shown on the main page of my site and it should be done by Friday next week when i get back from my 5 day break

EDIT: here is a stable CSS only theme with only 3 pics added that i call boxer. You will find out the reason for its name once you load it

Hey legend, nicely done skin, not fancy at all, but u should redo those admin, mod and user images. Its kinda annoying seeing this on the side of my UI Wink

skins need to start somewhere, ill redo them so they are smaller and more transparent

i applied a simple text background image to mine, but still crowded it, looked like crap, so i didnt bother.

My skin will have the following things changed from the legendary skin...

(which is what i started from)

-The entire UI is has a black and blue layout
-All buttons have changed background images and are verically centered
-Administrator text and player color is orange
-Moderator text and player color is maroon
-Custom smileys (still in the works)
-New login screen
-Font is Comic Sans MS (except the chat is still Verdana)
-PM box title is bigger and more noticable

i will post more changes when i get to them...

does anyone want to know if something else can be changed or edited, plz lemme know and i will attempt to edit (usually with p's help)

My final skin will be released as soon as the custom smileys r done and working.

PS. i am also planning on making a black/red, black/green, and black/white theme, too Wink

To let everyone know, almost EVERYTHING is editable on this UI, if not everything, from the skin.css file, BUT if u wish to edit something from the kaiUI or any javascript file, then a skin.js will need to be created.

yeah i have a skin.js but who knows what you can actually do with this
i would have no clue without prestige

its very simple to modify the javascript, all it take it some time to work out what function connects to what and then you can start modifying it

I lawled when i saw that too scrolling through the main.css file, but i think that is the code for the box that goes around the PMbox if im not mistaken Wink
