PSP & Kai FAQ
Will X WiFi Adapter work with my PSP & Kai?
Dunno, read the posts "Compatible Network Cards" and "Screenshot Guide" for a list we've had the most success with.
Will my Access Point work with my PSP & Kai?
(Access points are part of Infrastructure wireless networks)
At the moment all games use Ad hoc mode to connect wirelessly so, No.
Will my Wireless Router work with my PSP & Kai?
See this thread: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56712
How do I play a PSP game online?
Once you've set everything up correctly, and your PSP is listed is "configured" in Kai Diagnostics - goto the correct arena, find someone hosting a game and then search in the PSP game menu.
Why does my connection speed start out at 11Mbps but drop to 1Mbps when I load Kai?
This is because "The overall connection speed is only as fast as the slowest person's upstream". This applies to all people in the arena not just the people you are playing.
Why is my PSP Detected in Windows, but not in Kai?
Firstly, please read all of the "Screenshot Guide", if your WiFi card isn't in the list and it still doesnt work after trying the following points it probably wont work - Feel free to test and post your results but unfortunately we will be unable to support you.
Ensure you are only using Windows Connection Manager (dont bother with the Linksys/Buffalo client manager).
Check in Wireless Connection Properties / Wireless Networks - that there isn't anything in your Preferred Networks.
Always load Kai in the correct procedure as outlined in the guide. (Enable WiFi -> Host R/R -> Load Kai)
Goto Device Manager -> Wireless Card -> Properties -> Advanced (tab) -> try changing some of the settings.
(last resort) Try upgrading to Windows XP SP2 (backup your essential files first!)
My PSP is detected in Kai but Windows reports 0k packets recieved?
You wont get any "packets recieved" until you have gone into an arena where traffic from other PSPs can be routed to you. (plus you will need to be in either hosting mode or currently searching for a game on your PSP before you will see any change).
Once I've hosted a game, I get a grey error screen when I try to host again?
We are aware of this problem, unfortunately this seems to be due to the way the PSP detects traffic on a WiFi channel incase another PSP is already hosting (but its actually just the PC trying to re-establish a connection). We are looking into this but in the meantime you can either change your Adhoc channel on your PSP or close Kai and disable/enable your WiFi. |

No known Wireless Routers work at the moment. |
I thought the Linksys WRT45G router supported Kai. Just thought this FAQ might be outdated. |

I got my PSP succesfully configured in Kai.
I have a DI-524 router and a computer connected to it(Wan).
All i did was have my psp connect to my router,(thus revealing the mac address)
- Then I cloned the mac address with the specific Ip assigned by my router(it's automatic)
- After that, i went into my psp network settings,
- I then went into manually configure my IP settings, added in the DNS, default router, ip and then did a test. It was succesful and Kai "succesfully configured" my psp. |

Could someone explain this line a little bit more?
"- Then I cloned the mac address with the specific Ip assigned by my router(it's automatic)"
That is the only part I don't understand, it sounds like I have the same setup as this guy but I don't get what he did at this step exactly. Could someone expand on what was done at this step? |

DJfluid, I did the same thing as you did. I got the same router as you do too. Anyway....you are using "Infrastructure Mode" but not following the guides here using Ad Hoc right? As you said...Kai detected my PSP properly and it shows that my network is reachable. But I couldn't join and game or host any game. Have you got any luck? I read many posts here that in order to join or host any games, you have to follow the proper procedures in order to make it work. If you make it work w/o following the guides.....please share so we all know how to make it work. Thanks! |

Seems to be a bit of a disconnect in regards to running Kai off a wireless router.
Anyone I've come across in chatting on Kai (who will actually talk to me :p ) are connecting via a wired router/2nd wireless network card setup.
Me, I just have the single, wired card on my PC, and I'm trying to connect to Kai with the PSP through my wireless router (Linksys wrt54g) . Connects flawlessly in Infrastructure mode (played Gretzky online), but I can't seem to connect via Kai for adhoc games.
Updated the routers firmware as per the post 2 above, it all seems to check out OK in the routers config screens... shows Kai engine running, Scan PSP locates the PSP. However, running the Kai UI is where the problem arises. Before the router firmware upgrade, I could enter arenas and chat, but not host games, or see games to join.
With the firmware upgrade, I can't even get into an arena... all I can see is a long list of Users who seem to be 'stuck' on "Establishing".
Kai UI itself shows my PSP as being successfully configured, and I am shown to be reachable.
Not sure what I've done wrong, but searches through the forums, for some reason, don't show much talk about connecting via wireless router.
EDIT:
Yay, got it working finally, connecting solely via a wireless router (Linksys wrt54g).
Might have just been a hiccup in Kai earlier, as I tried it again and it now works.
I did have to go into Kai's config mode and switch to the Java interface (regular could not find the Engine on the router). This time, it connected quickly, showed the arenas, users, etc. And I was able to actually get into a game, both joining and hosting. Unfortunately, the lag made the game (Untold Legends) unplayable. But it did work.
Too bad I have to use the Java interface though, as the default is better IMO. |

installing XP sp2 on my PC. The wireless framework isn't up to date on sp1 of xp and I had been unable to get my psp status to go to 1 sony.
Then I installed SP2 and ran all the updates and bam, 1 sony and played a great couple of rounds of Burnout (and got my ass whopped btw!).
I'm using the D-link DWL-122 and I turned off my wireless access point to prevent clashes (tho XP does have the option to exclusively connect to ad-hoc open connections/devices such as the PSP)
Drop me a PM if you are having probs using setting up the DWL-122 on XP with Xlink.
Yay! It works!! |

This is a question about DJfluid's method. Where do you clone the mac address to and where do you find all that information when your psp is connected to your router?? |
