That would make sense; Mario Kart DS uses true Wi-Fi as opposed to Ni-Fi, so any Ethernet client (such as Xlink Kai) should be able to talk to it. It'd be cool if Kai supported Mario Kart DS, although since it's online for free anyway, it might be kind of pointless.

Oh, wait, doesn't MKDS support 8-player LAN, but only 4-player online? Maybe MKDS on Kai would be a cool thing after all. Can a Kai expert comment, please?

Even though kai might reconize the ds it may not be possible to find players sense MKDS used the NWFC server to find matches but im not for sure, the game its self might be searching for people on the network (similar to lan) so if it were possible to get a number of DSs on an isolated network (where the ds cant bypass kai and go to NWFC network to find players) then it could be possibe.

there is still a small hope Smile

You would want to use the MULTIPLAYER option though and not the WFC mode. The Multi offers EVERY TRACK, BATTLE ect.. There are only 20 race tracks online. So I hope its up soon.

There isnt a way to tunnel the ds. The reason why the ds is being detected is because they are loging into NWFC. The router/wireless card is picking up the wifi signal.

If NWFC is a peer to peer connection and you could isolate the packets (keep them from going to nintendo) then it would be possible. The first thing we need to do is determine if it is a peer to peer connection. This will be a side project of ours. Now if only we could get the DS Contributors to help out (im one)

Neither. LAN mode in all DS games uses Ni-Fi (which is a proprietary protocol created by Nintendo, which uses a Wi-Fi chipset), if I remember correctly.

That makes alot of sense. It still could be possible. Anyone who has a router that can connect the DS to NWFC post here so we can get some testers.

Now what we need to do is see if there is a way to restrict the devices connected to the router and have their packets sent to kai instead of going to the internet. Maybe kai does it already. You guys with routers, ds and mario kart get together and test this. ( I dont have a router so i cant help u all test.)

Are there any Kai devs that would help us?
