...what do you mean

just have a crossover cable running from one of the nics to the PS@ and it should work

Try to use an automatic setup first. I mean used Obtain IP Adress Automatically on your PC and same with PS2, use automatic too.

If you have problem connecting after that then u try tu assign IP address for both PS2 and PC.

Just try auto first....
