Microsoft has released initial minimum and recommended specifications for it's up-coming operating system - due for release in Jan 2007.

At the minimum, you will need a 800Mhz processor with 512mb of memory and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.

The minimum means that the operating system will run but some new features will be disabled. Recommended means that this is what is needed to get the most basic configuration of the whole package working.

For those wishing to get the most from their newly bought operating system, they'll need a 1gig+ CPU, with 1gig of memory and a graphics card that supports "Windows Areo" *come again?* It is also suggested that your graphics card have at least 128mb of memory, and at least 15 GB HDD SPACE!

i.e. to get Vista running fluidly you'll need something better then their "recommended" spec. Rolling Eyes

Microsoft have also released a tool that allows people to check whether their machine will be able to run the operating system, and the tool can be downloaded here!.

I guess that puts a Mac mini or a MacBook out of the question if you want to run Vista on it...
