Hey fellows

I don't know if this should be posted here but I think its near to xbox related stuff.

I was wondering why can't simulate the XBOX Live option on xbox games and drive them through Xlink, so we have much less traffic (as XBL games on XBL sends less traffic during a game than System Link). Is it difficult to capture the data and read them?

I'm not an expert or programmer etc, but i think that somehow when you press XBOX Live on game the game connects to XBL servers. Is that possible with a patch for the game and some technical changes on Kai servers and the Xlink Kai program to connect on XBOX Xlink Kai Live (nice name ah?) and not to M$ XBOX Live?

[edited] Is there any law issue abou that? I dont know...

I say again I'm not a programmer or an expert. Just wondering. If anyone have the kindness and explain me, do it for me.

Thanks in adv!

That would require us to patch the MS dashboard and that would most likely be illegal in some way. Also bypassing the Live servers might be illegal to.

It would be extremely difficult to come up with something like that. All of the traffic between the Xbox and the servers is encrypted, so capturing it would be difficult. It is also likely that there would be legal issues, at least in the US. Read up on Bnetd a bit. Also many games, including most of EA's, have dedicated servers set up to run them. You'd also have to figure out a way to emulate those servers, since they don't run peer-to-peer like a system link game would.

It would also steal bandwidth. This creates extra stress on the Microsoft servers. It would basically be like stealing cable.
