Since I see a lot of people asking how they can reduce lag, I'll try to give a few of my tips. Most of this is pretty obvious stuff, and a lot of common sense. Please add to this as you see fit
(+) Shut down any other programs running in the background (+)
- Especially ones that use your connection, though if you use something like TeamSpeak in your team, then you might need to keep those open...
(+) Scan your PC for viruses regularly (+)
- I was getting a lot of lag recently, did a scan of my PC and found 2 downloader.esepor trojans using my bandwith. Removed then and the games were smooth again
(+) Scan regularly for spyware (+)
- I use both AdAware 6.0 and Spybot Search and Destroy. Update them before each time you scan, and you could reduce the lag by removing spyware that is using your connection. (The reason I use both programs, is the the things that one app misses, the other gets )
(+) Defrag (+)
- I try to defrag once every two weeks. I download a lot, and if I don't defrag for a long time, say a month, then I defrag, I notice a difference if the lag.
(+) Hosting (+)
- Because lag is mostly dependant on the hosts upload speed, they to let the person with the highest upload host. There's no point having the person with 128upload host, and the guy with 1024up join right? Kind of obvious, but it makes the most difference
There's the few I can think of off the bat right now. Hopefully someone will have found something they didn't know in here and hopefully people can add other tips, so we can all enjoy smoother gaming
Enjoy your gaming L8r! |

And don't forget to reboot your systems from time to time. MS apps require restarts along with most routers to clear errors. If you reboot everything right before you join everything should be starting fresh. |

I know right. And you represent porn (X rated) so don't betray your team (not clan). |

That really dont work unless you got enough bandwidth to share, try splitting a 356kpbs connection by 4. Not pretty, when sending webcam data, and talking on skype. I would recommend just getting a faster connection, 5mbps / 356kps should suit you. |

386k upstream should never suit anyone thats just plain shit telecommunication companies just need to give up the broadband they are withholding. DOCSIS2 modems can go as fast as 50Mb symmetrical its the isp thats keeping the bandwidth. |

I agree, Road Runner is a rather gay for, $50/mo for 5mps / 356kps.
btw, i have 356kps not 386kps, and for the number of servers running off my network, it suits me fine |

well, if people actually listened to posts like this then perhaps things would change. Until they do, we must wait
