There seem to be no fewer than 10 people here who can't get their Linksys routers to work with Kai. Does anyone here use such a router? If so, would they be willing to share how they got their's to work? |

So are you just trying to figure out if this router is compatible with Xlink Kai? Or did you have a problem you need help with. Unlike most places less doesn't = more, so give as much info about you system, LAN, and problems. Thanks |

Linksys BEFSR41W used here. No problems with it (besides the fact I have to port-forward. I wouldn't call that a "problem").
It has wireless capabilities, but I don't use wireless when using Kai (the PC, TV adn XBox are all in one line within 1 m of each other). |

First off, i simply wanted confirmation form someone that the Linksys routers worked. Or, there really wasnt any point in continuing.
I have a BEFW11S4 router with a wireless bridge (which i know still works since i can play online games like Burnout3) connected to a PS2. My Kai performance screen is always blank. Neither "configued-successfullly" or "failed to auto-configure" is shown. I can see other users and their pings, however.
So far i've,
Disabled the Windows firewall, although Kai was listed under exceptions.
Set up a static IP:
http://webrun.net/~allprotr/diehard/tutorials/static.html
I've removed/rebooted WinPCaps, etc:
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=343
Changed the DMZ to 192.168.1.100 in an attempt to bypass the router's firewall. Is there a better way?
I also tried to port forward 30000 UDP, but that failed to stay applied. Maybe i inserted the wrong values?
About the only thing i haven't done, is prevented my PS2 from being assigned a MAC address. But i don't see where i can accomplish that.
Thanks for reading. I'm open to any ideas at this point. |

Have you used the information at http://www.portforward.com to verify that the port forward for your router is setup correctly? Make sure the IP address you are forwarding to is the static one that you set on your computer and not the PS2 address.
Additionally, is the wireless-ethernet bridge you are using a WET11? If not, which one is it. There's an additional configuration area in the Kai Config specifically for some wireless devices and, depending on which one you use, you may need to enter some more info here. |

So, should the "Ext.Port" boxes read 30000 To 30000 or some other value.
http://www.portforward.com/linksys/BEFSR11-pf.jpg
Yes, the bridge is a Wet 11.
Is this the info:
The WET11 wireless ethernet bridge requires that you manually set the ethernet addresses of both the XBox and WEB within the KaiConfig utility. At the bottom of the window is a button labelled wireless. Click here. For the "Real" MAC enter the ethernet address of your console. In the Virtual MAC enter the ethernet address of your Wireless Ethernet Bridge. Insert - Click - Play.
If so, how do i find the addresses of my PS2 and bridge? |

The port forward should be 30000 in both boxes, UDP checked to the IP of your PC running kai. Also be sure you've entered 30000 for the Kai port in the Kai Configuration Utility.
Yes that's the wireless info I am referring to. I'm not sure on the PS2 address - don't own one myself and not familiar with that. I would assume it's in the network setup somewhere, but I could also be way off here. The WET11 address should be on a sticker on the unit - it's a 12 digit hexadecimal number (0-F). |

There is a MAC address sticker on the bottom with a 12 digit number on it.
Any PS2 owners know how tho find a PS2's address? |

The way I found my PS2s mac address, was turned on DHCP on my router, let the PS2 get its info from the router, then viewed the routers client table. |

Only the router's and bridge's MAC addresses are listed on my client table. |

I don't believe this method would work in the long run. The DHCP function only leases out that IP address for a given amount of time, example: 1 day. After that period of time, the address given out is recycled and then your back to square one. Just a thought though.
Could anyone elaborate on this further, or tell me if I'm wrong? |

Ok. To get your PS2s MAC address all you have to do is try and make a connection with the cable unplugged. Hit select after it fails and you'll get your adapter's MAC.
However, it's still not working. The router just isn't seeing the PS2. Maybe i should update the router's firmware.
*Edit*
Upgraded. Still nothing. I'm about ready to give up on Linksys.
How do you:

2. Just block the MAC address of your console in your router.

As suggested in the troubleshooting tips? |

I have WRT54G and cant get my XBOX to be seen by XLink
I have hard wired PC and Xbox to router with static IP addresses.
I have disabled software firewall on the PC and set up port forwarding (on router) for the respective ports I have configured through Xlink config.
I have upgraded to the latest router firmware.
I regularly ftp files to media centre on xbox so networking config is OK. Media centre gets news feeds etc. from the web also.
I get Network reachable: Yes so I assume forwarding is fine...
Still no joy with XLink seeing xbox ....
I'm coming to the conclusion that it's the router.
Is it worth me doing some network monitoring to attempt to see what's happening? Any tips? |
