If your stuck trying to set this up and don't know what to do, then check out these quick simple step by step walkthrew to install kaid on your Linux machine.
(Video tutorials Coming Soon)
If you need a UI I would recommend using gKaiUI for Linux

The gKaiUI
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/downloads/gkaiui-preview.tar.bz2?downloadID=400&grab=Download

You can download the kaid engine here.
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/binary/kaid-7.0.0.7-linux-x86.tar.gz?downloadID=103&grab=Download

First you must know the root password. Then login to the root and do the following.
Place the Kaid file in the Systemfile/bin
And the Kaid.config In the systemfile/etc

-Then log back into your account on your Linux. And type into the terminal "su" and it will request password type in the root password
and click Enter. Then type "kaid"
Then Start the gKaiUi and Type in User name and password In the Space's provided.

---------------------------------------------------
If errors or faults happen to come up.
If you need any further clarification please don't hesitate to post for help, I'll be more than willing to help.
If i can.
-----------------[gKaiUI images]---------------------------------------
Do this to make the images in gkaiui show up if you use it.

/usr/local/share/ go there and make a new folder call it gkaiui
now put the pixmaps folder there with all the images in it. Launch gkaiui and the images should show up. Very Happy

/usr/local/share/gkaiui/pixmaps should be what the structure looks like when done and all those images should be in that pixmaps folder that was included with gkaiui
---------------------------------------------------------------
If you wish to use jKaiUI then do the following
Download
http://superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/jkaiui/jKaiUI.jar
then in terminal type
java -jar /path/to/jKaiUI.jar
(if you don't know the path where its at just move jKaiUI.jar to your home folder that way you can just get away with java -jar jKaiUI.jar)
and hit enter, don't close the terminal window or jkaiui will close

Remake's of his Video tutorials are coming soon. My myself and MsrGmr

gkaiui runs for me but because of the segmentation fault it hangs on querying the orbital mesh

I have successfully used it without any segmentation faults. I would say it works, just unreliable. I would recommend they use the JKaiUI instead.

Segment fault.

Try typeing "ps -a"
Then "Kill [then what ever number kaid is]".
then try starting kaid again.

A lot of this is predicated on the root login. I am new to linux and I am using Ubuntu as my introduction. Where do you find the root login? I have been trying to use sudo, but it seems that there are still areas that I am denied permission. I think if I could find the password I could be successful using su instead of sudo. your thoughts?

As you have noticed during the Ubuntu installation there was no question about the root password, as you might have been used to see during other Linux distribution installation process.Because of this your root accout is inactive.

If you want to enable root account (which is not recommended) enter the following command.

$sudo passwd root

This will prompt for a new root password and once you confirm it, you can start using the root account to login.
