Hi

I have a wireless router that my PC is connected to.

I have a Wireless Bridge that my XBOX is using to connect to the router.

If I hardwire the XBOX to the router everything works fine!!!

If I use the wireless bridge (and set the Wireless Mac settings) it does not work?

If I use a packet analyzer connected to the router, I can see the broadcasts from 0.0.0.1 but the source mac address is the packet analyzers!???!!?

Can anyone give me any pointers pls?

I obviously have a reasonable amount of experience, hence this post.

Thanks
Nick

In the MS Dash there is a setup for wireless

Have you tried to run that?

Undo the MAC settings in kai and just try using the settings in the MS Dash and see if they will make it work, if not let me know and we will start some other steps.

As far as I can see, you're using an incompatible network setup.

You cannot have a wireless pc to router, and wireless XBox to router.

See the following post to see why:

http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2661

Looking over your post, you haven't actually mentioned whether the PC is wireless or wired to this wireless router. However, you mentioned that it works when you hardwire the XBox, suggesting that the PC is also hardwired. In that case, I'll let DIE-HARD take over Very Happy Follow his lead..

I, like you, use a Wireless device to connect my Xbox back to the router. The big question here that you didn't answer is what type of wireless device you have connected at your Xbox. I understand the frustration in having to go through support channels and details things out.

If you work in the industry, as it sounds, then you can understand we need better details of your wireless devices in order to truly help. Otherwise we're just pulling at straws here and hoping we pick the right one. Eventually we will find the right one that way, but it's much quicker if you work with us here instead of trying to use your experience as an excuse why you shouldn't give some details here... and there's a reason.

One device that does require the use of the MAC settings in Kai is the WET11 device - hence the reason it was named WET11 settings in the old version over a year ago. I know because I used that version, and the one prior that had absolutely no wireless MAC cloning support. My wireless adapter, on the other hand, requires absolutely no MAC settings at all. I use the Linksys Wireless-B game adapter and a D-Link DI-624 router.

How about you?

Wink and that is only the old v1.0 WET11's that require it

The router is a Netgear DG834G, I have also tried an older DG824M.

The Bridge is a Netgear WGE101.

The PC is hardwired to the router. Only the Xbox is connecting over wireless.

I can connect to XBOX Live (spit spit spit) ok across the wireless connection!

Thanks for your help guys!

It looks to me like you need to setup port forwarding on your router. For the netgear dg834g have a look at >>this link<< which will walk you through setting up a port forward to your PC. Make sure to configure whatever port you choose in the kai configuration utility as well. We usually recommend to use port 30000 as we know it isn't used (whatever IANA may say...) and be sure to setup the custom service to use UDP port 30000 when following the walkthrough I linked.

Best of luck. Report back if this doesn't help at all.

If the problem was being caused by the lack of a forwarded port then it would not work when the XBOX is hardwired, which it does.

Cheers though.

OK go into the MS Dash and set the wireless stuff to it's defaults. Make sure the MAC is back to it's origional state.

Then try using kai, if it still doesnt work, enter the wireless info into kaiconfig.

Thought I'd better add this. When I connected to XBOX live it was after getting a valid DHCP address from my router.

It's not aware of the wireless connection.

When the XBOX searches for a wirless connection it cannot find one?

If I'm not mistaken the built-in wireless support is for Microsoft's Xbox Wireless Gaming Adapter. My Linksys isn't supported by the MS dash, it's transparent to the dash and merely acts a somewhat of a media converter. Or at least that's how it performs as my xbox works in Kai, on Live and on the internet from avalaunch or xbmc all with no extra configuration in any of them.

It's obviously the WEB that's causing your problem but what about it is doing this? I'm not familiar with its configuration utilities, if there are any. Perhaps, and it wouldn't be a first, it's just an incompatible device - but I'd also have a hard time beleiveing that about a Netgear 802.11g device....

I'm at a loss, sorry.

I think the problem lies with the wireless bridge.

When the XBOX has a game booted it has the IP address 0.0.0.1 as we know. I think the bridge is not forwarding the MAC address on the broadcasts. I will prove this by running some traces from either side of the bridge.

Will post results here tonight hopefully.

If you're using the wireless settings in the Kai Configuration Tool, they haven't really been extensively tested (we haven't got anybody to test it). This might be a good chance for you to help us out..

Or have you not put the info into the wireless section of the Kai Config. Tool?

I just wanted to update you on the status of this request.

We've had yet another user who has gone so far as to post on the Netgear support forums. Please follow THIS THREAD for any updates regarding the WGE101 bridge and any other possible devices that may require the MAC translation features currently being looked into.

Until then, the best advice we can offer is to hard wire the xbox to the router.
