Alright me and a friend were tackling this problem for a day, changing everything on our routers, drivers, digging through every thread in the universe. Couldn't find a fix. I noticed a lot of people on these forums are having the Same Issue. This could potentially fix other games as well because it is a major problem if you have it.
The problem: My friend could see me perfectly in-game, in the guild hall. My armor, my cat his armor, running around, picking up quests all that.
But all I could see was his name in-game when he joined the Guild Hall.
How to tell: First open your Recovery Menu by holding the R trigger when you boot up, or if you have some of latest CFW press select on the XMB screen (PSP Home Screen). Under configuration make sure "Hide Mac Address" is disabled.
Exit the Recovery screen and make your way to Settings > System Settings > System Information. Now check and copy down your MAC Address somewhere.
Next if you have a wireless router, or any wireless internet at all to connect to run a test connection through Settings > Network settings > Infrastructure mode. Set up the connection information, or just select one you already use and cycle through all the way to the end of the manual setup pressing X to save the settings.
It will run through its task and make sure you're connecting properly, blah blah not important. What -is- important, is the MAC Address number appearing all the way down at the bottom of the long list of diagnostics information it spits out at the end. This is your TRUE WLAN/Wifi MAC Address.
Now if this new number you've just retrieved differs in ANY way, you have the same problem as me.. and I have a fix for you
THE FIX: Its pretty simple really.. I was going to go the hard route, dump my mac from the Mobo and hex edit it in. But I though.. man someone has GOT to have a safer approach to this, something DUMMY proof.. and its true!
All Hail Chris Swindle, back in 2007 this man created a program called MACFixer. REQUIRES CFW as far as I know... and it helps to have the latest. If you have older firmware... JUST UPDATE. Its so easy to hack a these days no battery required.
Now heres what you want to look up... Because I'm afraid of rules.. and Linking outside the site.
Search for MACFixerUPDATED, it SHOULD be the very first link you see on Google/Bing on a website called Noobz.
Dig into the ZIP, you only need the MacFixer folder and its contents. Un-zip it somewhere on your computer first (habit of mine). Then toss it into your PSP Memory card under PSP/GAME.
Now that you're loaded up and out of USB mode, go to the games section of your psp the program it will be listed there "MacFixer".
Just run the program, it should come up with a black screen and soon two white lines of text you probably don't know what the heck it means.
The final and important line should be something about actually having changed your MAC Address.
You're probably going to do what I did at this point, mash x... mash every button possible because you can't find a way to exit. DON'T PANIC, it didn't brick. Just hit the home button and exit (lol).
Now for the Victory Lap!
Go to Settings > System Settings > System Information again and check your MAC Address, It should now be the one that came up in the Infrastructure Diagnostics. If so VICTORY!!!!
If not, I'm guessing you either weren't patient enough for the third message.. or aren't running on the proper firmware UPGRADE.
For Informations sake I run on 6.39 PRO B-10
Now for the Reasons why this happened to you!
Most people don't realize that the memory card reader in the PSP is also attached to the Wifi/ADHOC device. The replacement comes with its own MAC Address and does not bother to update the motherboards... Your technician Professional may not of realized this, did not know how to do it, or did not want to risk bricking your system.
Other reasons may include some sort of spoofer program you used in the past that don't require matching MAC Addresses on certain games maybe, maybe you wanted to change your MAC to get around a ban or something... Or make your MAC address something cool and impressive to show off to your friends I dunno. Whatever your reason, here is your fix. |
