Is there a tutorial on how to get xlink kai up and running on a modern version of ubuntu? The last ones available are for 10.xx and simply do not work anymore (even with outdated packages and ppas added).

How does one get XLINK working on Ubuntu 16.04?

Here you go!

1. Download kai from the site, in this case 'kaiEngine-7.4.30-rev595.headless.el5.i386.tar.gz'
2. Extract it
Code:
tar zxvf kaiEngine-7.4.30-rev595.headless.el5.i386.tar.gz

3. Change into its directory
Code:
cd kaiEngine-7.4.30/

4. Make the hidden config folder (this some times fails so its safest to do it manually)
Code:
mkdir ~/.xlink

5. Start kai!
Code:
sudo ./kaiengine

You may need to install a couple dependencies:
Code:
sudo apt-get install libstdc++6:i386 libc6:i386

Hi CrunchBite,

I am unable to run sudo ./kaiengine

I receive: sudo: ./kaiengine: command not found

I've installed the libstdc++6:i386 libc6:i386 dependencies

libstdc++6:i386 is already the newest version (5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

I also tried running as root (i'm new to linux, using sudo -i) but received Permission Denied when I got to the kaiengine directory or command not found

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated if you can tell what I'm doing wrong or missing.

Thank you

Hiya!

Make sure you are in the directory that was made by extracting in step 2 by running
Code:
cd kaiEngine-7.4.30/

if it still has problems kaiengine might need to be set to be executable, you can do when in the same directory this like so:
Code:
sudo chmod +x kaiengine

Thanks CrunchBite!

Kai Engine: The engine is rocking
Connect to: http://127.0.0.1:34522/

That worked but how do I allow my computer to run that url? I'm just receiving a Problem loading page screen. Is there something else I need to do? I'll try checking the site in the meantime, if I figure it out before you read this I'll update my reply here.

Edit:

Crunchbite, your suggestions allowed me to run the kaiengine, and I can see my Metrics display showing "reachable - yes" and "Locked" on the proper Ethernet port but I've been unsuccessful in getting Kai to detect my console and see any games on my Ps2 (Socom 2). I get the same results on two different PC's running Linux Mint 18.1 and Ubuntu 16.04.

What I want to know is... is there ANYONE out there that is currently running kai on Ubuntu 16.04 or Linux Mint???
