Is your network reachable? Yes
Are you using a port-forward? No
Is your console being detected? Yes
Brief description of your network setup: Charter Cable (3MB down, 256up) going into D-Link Wireless router. XBOX and PC are hooked up via cable (not wireless)
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it? Yes Zone Alarm, generally turn it off completely when playing XLink
Operating System? WinXP Pro
Problem description? (Using Halo2 for example) When hosting a game, I normally create an XLink Private Arena, and allow 4 users in. If one or two people come in, and see my game on the XBox, everything is fine. But if I notice 4+ people in my XBox Lobby and try to start the game, I just get an error after the 10 second countdown.. and after 2 minutes of the xbox hanging and trying to start the game, the game starts on my machine, but no one gets into the game.
Also (another scenerio) when I am playing a game with 1 or 2 others, and someone tries to join the game, they are never allowed into the game. And they end up like, timing out or something..
Even if the game ends, and that new person is still waiting in the lobby, they cannot join the next game when it is started. Their name shows in-game, but they are greyed-out like they are not connecting....
(I hope this makes some kind of sense...)
I've got my arena status set to host, I've got the option set in Halo 2 to allow more people into the party. I've been able to host games w/1 other, 2 others and 3 others (off and on)

Have you set your status to hosting when you create the room? Can you join other Halo 2 games from other private arenas? |

Yes, I am set to host... and yes, I can join other games.
Its to the point where I can host a game sucessfully the first time I turn on the XBox and Computer - say.. with 3 other people...
Then the next game I get, the game just never seems to start and I just get that 'wait...' message on the screen (Cant remember the exact message.. you know what I mean) |

Well it sounds as if it is working but maybe your connection just drops after a bit. When you get this problem, what does the diagnostics screen in XLink Kai look like? Network and Xbox still successful? |

Hello...
I get exactly the same problem. I have put my PC in a DMZ and opened ports up for the xbox i can join halo2 games no problem.
I can also Host and 2-4 people can connect and all is ok, then once in game other people try and join i see them entering game but their icon just has a cross by it and they dont appear in game.
after game is finished no one else can connect or rejoin and i have to quit and rehost a new one.
I've asked other people how they get more people to join once in game but they didnt have firewalls on the router.
i use the full verion of kai on the PC i don't go the xbmc.
Tis weird as all seems to work just more than 4 people cant connect.
Any ideas anyone? |

lets put this on hold for a bit and see if the next update helps.
There are some known issues with the bandwith limits and when it triggers kai to stop tunneling. |

Mingster... that sounds exactly like what I am running into.
I didnt mention the point you made, because it already seemed too confusing...
But yes, if I have a game going w/3 players.. and a 4th comes in 'mid-stream', it seems as if that 4th can never get into the game.
The players name shows on the menu (in game) but it is greyed out and they eventually end up dropping....
DIE HARD, any idea when that will be? |

Acutally, I can have my Dell laptop here from work - (which doesnt have ZoneAlarm on it) and I get the exact same results when running XLink on the laptop vs. the PC... |

Yes, the host is set to host.
(I can have 1 other guy playing a game with me, and the 3rd person coming in cant connect as well... its not always #4 that has a problem) |

Just looking at your config, sounds like you're using a very old Kai build.
Uninstall, delete the folder, re-download from website, re-install, let it update. This is most likely the reason to dropping users. |

Okay.. I uninstalled, wiped out the folder, went and downloaded the current version, here is my cfg file:
[KaiUserConfig]
kaiUsername=!
kaiPassword=!
kaiPort=0
kaiDeepPort=0
kaiAccept=LOCAL
kaiTimeout=NOUI
kaiNIC=0
kaiLaunch=BOTH
kaiHomeBrew=OFF
kaiWireless=
kaiUI=Default
Still had the same issues.
I actually got one game started with a total of 4 players, and it was great. I was able to 'close' the party in the game so no others joined.
I then was able to start a 2nd game.. and everyone stayed in again!
When I tried to start the 3rd game... the other 3 could not connect, and the game did the same old thing...
I rebooted all, tried again, and started running into the same things where I started a game with one other - people tried to join, and their names showed up in the game list, but they never appeared on the screen.
I figure that it was interesting w/the 4 player game I had going for a bit, that the same users that COULD connect with me could NOT connect time after time after time... so I wouldnt think it is any type of hardware configuration on THEIR end...
I dont know (Im scratching my head now...) |

Might want to change the KaiNIC from =0 to =2 which would be the NIC card in your PC. |

Okay, I downloaded the files (not sure why I still was using an
older version of the program... I downloaded the current windows
version off the website... oh well...)
I see a couple new lines added to the cfg file, I'll try some gaming tonight
or tomorrow and see if I notice any difference. |

Don't ever change kaiNIC *manually*. Go into the Kai Config. Tool and choose the NIC that the XBox is hooked up to from there.
Is this on the same PC that doesn't have ZA? Or is this that same one? Did you ever try uninstalling it? |

I have the same problem
I can host people the first time I setup a game. But after it starts no matter what, other people can't join. They join and get disconnected immediatedly and in halo2 they are grey'd out.
Also after hosting the first game , I not sure though, but I think I can no longer host. When i do a start game, it waits in halo2 the 'waiting for game' screen.
Here's my config. I have these vesions.
KaiVersion=Launch;7.0.2.6;
KaiVersion=Engine;7.0.5.2;
KaiVersion=Config;7.0.2.7;
KaiVersion=UI;7.0.7.2;
