Hi,
It's absolutely great that SPEEX support has been integrated into the newest CVS of XBMC:D, but I was wondering exactly how we'd use it:

Do we use a LIVE headset, or do we connect a PC headset using USB? And how?

Thanks!

You use the Live! headset. When you're in xbmc, go to the Kai page. Highlight the contact you want to chat with and select the "Chat" button on the menu on the left. That's it. If you don't see the chat button, you might have to update your skin.

Recently, we renamed 'Chat' to 'Voice'.

Okay...I've read through all of the the topics that appeared when I searched for speex and found various people claiming it works....also a clan mate told me that somebody he knows got it to work also....I've tried a couple of times with no success. At the moment I'm not forwarding any ports at all to play on kai and system link works just fine. Would I have to forward ports in order to get speex to work? I have a CVS build dated 11-23-04.

EDIT: I tried with two more or my clan members and finally got it to work....I guess the other people have firewalls up or something because SPEEX worked just fine. Didn't have to do a thing to it

I GOT IT.....if you're having trouble hearing somebody....set your status to voice activated and tell them to do the same....then restart xbmc. That's the way I've found to work. Very Happy

I'm just wondering if the voice chat can be used WHILE in a game, for example if I wanted to tell my Halo2 team mate that I need a ride back as I have the flag (like in LIVE!) isit possible, cuz when I play on Kai is seemed awfully quite unlike when I WAS on LIVE!

SPEEX has absolutely nothing to do with in-game speech. This is an engine issue that's been address in another thread in tghe General Help forum - a fix will come as soon as the time is available to test it and release it.

You just highlight your friend and press 'Voice'.

If they use XBMC, they'll see 'XbcSharpShooter' has requested voice chat. If they go into View: Friends, they'll see a flashing speaker next to you. They highlight your name and press voice. After a few seconds a connection will establish.
