Got this off of xbox-scene of all places :-
Viper GC is the world's first amateur coding module for NGC. The onboard flash memory allows users to boot Homebrew applications, loaders or BIOS'.
A high speed parallel port programmer is provided along with the FFC cable to connect to the Viper GC main module. An intuitive PC application has been authored to facilitate easy transfer of BIOS', loaders or Homebrew applications to the flash memory.
More info at http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEpEFFyykEaZtHhjfS.php.
Do you think this is good news guys? Do you need something like this so you can do what the Xbox guys do, or is it a 'nice to know'? I'm an Xbox owner, so impartial really! |

This is great news for homebrew community.
No more PSO --> BBA --> PSOLOAD stuff...
Now they can boot Linux directly from the Chip (almost)... |

Why, because you can't play copied games with it?
The chip is GREAT, this is how far the chips on ANY console should have made it, no more (ie no copied games).. IMHO. |

Yes I agree and no I don't. Yesterday my little girl took my Halo 2 disc out of the XBox when I was playing online and she bit into it. I have no idea why she did this but she is two. So do I go out and spend 50 dollars every time there is a problem with the disc? Thank god for Blockbuster and renting games so I can make a trade with them because at 50 a pop, I will only buy them once. |

NeoBlitzz chill out,
Quote: |
"To do what this chip does you can use PSO+BBA, Max Drive Pro (should it ever get released...) or my Action Replay hack. The result is the same: You place some new code into memory and execute it. PSO+BBA and my solution require the BBA for data transfer, Max Drive Pro uses a USB memory card, and this chip has a parallel port. Different ways for the same effect." |
Read the thread, it's not about copied games. |

Not useless, this mean EASY boot from modded-chip or original..
It just sounded to me that djveeman was unhappy the chip did not take pirated games... |

i dont care about pirated games im just saying in general that the modding community is not as big as ps2 or xbox, this viper thing is a small step but its still seems kind of useless to me, of course if i see something awesome being done with this i will change my mind. |

I agree, a game console is a game console, alright Why do people want to "improve it" in the most useless ways? |
