Is your network reachable? Yes
Are you using a port-forward? yes/ tried both yes/no
Is your console being detected? No
Brief description of your network setup: Linksys BEFW11S4 router, both PC and xbox directly wired to it
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it? Symantec FW, tried allowing 0.0.0.1 and port 3074 full access, tried everythink under FAQ 2.0. Tried disabling FW, nothing helped.
Operating System? WindowsXP Pro + SP2 (Windows FW disabled)
Problem description? Network is reachable, I can see arenas, games, users. Everything seems to work fine, even under XBMC (i.e. can see everything under XBMC), but when I try joining games nothing's visible and XL Kai reports that the console has not been detected yet. I noticed that once I switch from XBMC to the game the xbox IP disappears and the xbox can no longer be pinged. Could this be the reason and if so, how would I fix it?

Please help. Thanks in advance

It's the firewall, and I don't have any instructions on how to configure it properly. You could search for the forums, but the first thing I would try is uninstalling the firewall. If it detects the XBox, then you know where the problem is.

Disabling firewalls does not do anything to help you. Ports remain blocked while the firewall is disabled. Uninstalling firewalls is a different thing though.

Thanks dfunked for the reply. I had a sort of suspicion it had to do with the firewall not disabling completely or messing around with the card's promiscuous mode, which I suspect is needed to "see" the xbox when not running under XBMC and therefore w/o an IP/port to bind to.

If this is a known issue with symantec firewalls, Do you have a suggestion regarding an alternative I can use? I also have ZoneAlarm but I'd like to know if it's nown to work or not before I go through the trouble of uninstalling symantec and installing zonealarm.

Thanks.

I have the same problem too...

If i boot xbox then i can ping once dash opens (Avalaunch).
As soon as i start an app or game the pings cease...
XBMC is ok because it has network config applied in its set up.

Anything else booted and ip is dead..

XBMC connects fine to the Internet ..i get shoutcast etc.
This is a new box never been connected to XBL...someone did say box has to be registered to XBL b4 u can use it for LAN games.

If i boot MS bios then box will not ping until i try to setup XBL...net connection comes alive only when i try to connect then ceases ping once i cancel??

Detail

Xbox crystal 1.6
Xecuter3
X3_1959 bios
Avalaunch.0.49.1

You can use Sygate, that's proven to work on Kai. So is ZA, and there's instructions on how to configure it here, but I'm not a fan of ZA Smile

*EDIT* no reply in couple of days, assuming problem solved -tizzo
