Is your network reachable? Yes
Are you using a port-forward? No
Is your console being detected? Yes
Brief description of your network setup (include model numbers):
All wired network. Everything works just fine for a single xbox.
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it? Turned off when using Kai.
Operating System? XP pro
Problem description? Very simple. I need a definitive answer to this question of multiple boxes on the same network. I've searched the forums and have seen several replies, but nothing ending the topic.
CAN MULTIPLE BOXES USE KAI ON THE SAME WIRED HOME NETWORK?
and why not? one box can be the UI in XBMC and start the arena. then other boxes should be able to see that shared game... right?
Seems like it should work. But how to turn the Kai UI off on the other boxes and just be hosts or something. The problem starts when another box starts the UI and boots the first box off.

this is the exact type of answers that confused me.
to little information in the reply.
you say, "1 ui. 1 engine. x boxes..."
How to connect the other boxes?
just start the game without using XBMC or something?
Then does the game just see the systemlinks?
please more information. |

YES.
What's confusing about that? You said you needed a definitive answer and a difinitive answer should be "Yes" and "No". Those are also the non-confusing answers!
How you connect them is up to you, as long as they're connected to the network Kai doesn't care and nor do I.
A switch in example would be the correct choice;
Now plug all the Xboxes into that with ethernet cables.
You install KAI on ONE pc. Then you use XBMC UI on ONE Xbox. Then you just start the games on the other Xboxes.
I'll say again;
You use ONE Kai engine. You use ONE Xbmc UI on ONE Xbox. You just start the games on the other Xboxes. |

Well it doesn't seem to work.
Both boxes work when the other one is not on.
Both boxes have ips 192.168.254.10 and 192.168.254.11
both boxes are setup with the same username and pw.
^ is that a problem? do I need different usernames?
when starting XBMC on one box the kai starts and then the game works.
when starting the next box either directly to the game of via XBMC there is no games to join.
This is why I say the answer is not informative enough.
Please tell me the trick to using mulitple boxes on the same network. |

Ok. I've told you the "trick" 3 times now.
Here's a picture of a teaspoon:
After turning on the power to the Xboxes and pc do the following:
1) Start Kai engine on pc.
2) Start Xbmc on one Xbox.
3) Enter the correct arena.
4) Start the game.
5) Enter the systemlink menu.
6) Host a game.
7) Start the game on the other Xbox. From the Dash. Not Xbmc.
8) Enter the systemlink menu.
9) Search for a game.
The problem isn't that the post are uninformative, it's that you choose to not listen. |

That was great!
I made my reply that it was not enough info and you edited your reply with more info. then you said you told me 3 times... I love moderators.
anyway, thanxs for so much help,
It does seem to work just fine now!
I did learn one thing that I couldn't figure out and why it never worked...
My kids were actively playing Kai the whole time I was trying to get games to join. Well you have to wait till the game ends to get a list of games to join. I assumed the list would be there even though the game was in play. This was the root of my problem the entire time. |

Well that's not true. I edited the quote. But if you see me quoting you as info I must agree you're abseloutly correct.
The info of one engine, one ui, many Xboxes are not touched.
However, I'm glad it workes for you now. |

XLink Kai rocks!
Thanx to the Team!!!
last question. If I may.
Using DSL with 384Kbps upstream and "1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps" down, how many boxes can I have playing Halo 2 or SW Battlefront without much lag? |

Here's a quote from a previous post of mine:
Quote: |
Well it's quiet simple to calculate.
If you join you download every user's data except your own which you upload.
Ie. You join a 6 player low band game:
Download data from 5 other users = 5 users x 5 Kb/s = 25 Kb/s
Upload your own data = 5 Kb/s
In the supported games list on the Xlink webpage, the game bandwidth requirement are stated. Low is arround 2-5Kb/s and High is arround 10-15Kb/s. Most fps games are high band games. The list of games can be found here http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/supportedGames.php
If you host a game you download every user's data, still except your own. Then you upload your own and every user's data to every user - except their own data.
Ie. You host a 6 player low band game:
Download data from 5 other users = 5 users x 5 Kb/s = 25 Kb/s
Upload your own data and the other users data to eachother = 5 users x 5 Kb/s x 5 = 125 Kb/s.
When you host you always upload data from the total number of users -one, therefor 5 in this case. The reason why is because user A doesn't get his own data, he only gets B, C, D, E, and F's data while user B gets data from user A, C, D, E, and F. |
Upload: 384Kbit/s / 8 = 48KByte/s.
No worries joining at all. Limited hosting on high band games. No conserns. |
