I've been using xlink for a few days now and i'll start by saying that it's excellent software that is reliable and easy to use and actually works well (something that XBC can't offer).
I have noticed the amount of traffic on the switch playing games such as halo 2 creates and was worried about my internet usage.
Sure enough my internet bill maxed out for the month due to excessive up/downloads.
Obviously the system link games are designed for LAN play and not the internet, is there any sort of compression done to the packets to make them more suitable & stable for internet usage and help with lag issues or are they left as standard system link packets?? |

Yep, lots of compression. It really depends on what you play, how often you play and how many people you play with..
You could play Tony Hawks 4 for countless hours - years even, it's bandwidth usage is pathetic. Halo, Halo 2, Rainbow Six use a lot more than THPS4, but nothing that would frighten your grandmother. Maybe you been playing too much Halo 2
It sucks, and I guess you're on Telstra ADSL? Or Optus Cable 12GB? I'm already maxed out (few days ago), so I've not been playing anything online for a bit.. |

Yep you're spot on dfunked - Optus 12 Gb and I have been playing heaps of Halo 2. My connection was maxed out when I went to play today -
Does hosting use more of your downloads/uploads then joining an arena??
How much should I allow for in an month for Halo 2 playing a few hours a night??
Will this max my 12gb out??
- Cheerz for your help mate |

Yeah hosting will use more bandwidth so you'll be hitting up that 12GB max sooner. If you're not really downloading stuff on the PC, you could easily go the whole month without going over the 12GB. |

Yep - H2 is *murder* on download..
However, host in a private Arena.. or join in the public - you'll find it much better..

Hey aussie guys.
Have you thought of dodo unlimited?
I have been with them for over a year now on the 512 plan and am constantly downloading over 30 gig a month, no problems.
Its only $79 a month and you can join up with no contract |

Dunno, 512kbps is no great speed.. I like my uncapped bandwidth, but not my capped usage |

Year it's a real annoyance - Is it possible to get your upload speeds increased with optus?? Great download but the upload is only 16 kbps!! I think this is where the hosting becomes a problem with lots of players |

Just looking at some other internet plans and came across the Netspace gameplay plan that offers 512/512 so 512 up 512 down 12gb a month for $84.95 with 24 Gb - the best for online gaming I think i might get this one!! |

Still, HOW EXPENSIVE IS THAT!
You can run some illegal cable uncapping stuff on the modem, but they'll find out and you'll be finding yourself on dialup pretty soon |

I thought his name in Australia was Strawberry - at least that's what a few Aussie friends had told me a while ago... |
