How? The PSP isn't out yet, is it? December 12th is the Japanese release date. |

As much as i shit talk Sony for the quality of their hardware, i must say its very nice of them to make both ps2 and psp so easy to tunnel. (compared to others anyway) |

Well isnt it standard Wifi. Well that means the DS has that as well. So does that mean the DS part comes out tonight? |

the psp uses 802.11 for all means of multiplayer, Ad-hoc mode to be specific.
As stated earlier, the fact that it only uses the 802.11 protocol for it's multiplayer and that the psp reveals it's MAC address in the settings make packet sniffing and routing much easier. As oposed to the propietary protocol used in most of the DS launch games.
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll both have a tunnelling solution eventually. |

The PSP uses Ad-Hoc mode for multiplayer(near-by PSP playing) and Infrastructure mode for connecting to online through a wireless router.
I am beginning to wonder if the DS actually has WiFi. If you go to www.play-asia.com and go to their article on the PSP they recieved, you can see that on the PSP box it is WiFi 802.11B Certified. The DS has no such certification and the DS manual says NOTHING about WiFi. |

well in the future the ds may come out with games that allow you to set up the wireless card to connect to an AP to play online rather than it's defauly Ad-Hoc state but nintendo likes to be idiots when it comes to multi console gaming as we all know from the GC. |

Just to aid a complete novice
From what I have read (not a lot I must admit):
If I connect a PSP directly to my Wireless access point then it would be online gaming via a Sony server (yet to be established) which will be chargeable.
If I use tunneling with XLink I have to connect to the Wireless card in my Desktop (with software installed) in AdHoc mode, not directly to my broadband access point, which then allows me to play over my existing broadband at no extra cost.
Is this correct??
Finally, how can XLink do this hosting without charging? |

basically, we dont host, we just put you in touch with other players
(we do host servers that keep track of where players are)
the difference is you need a wireless equiped pc running the xlink software, while with sony's online you only need a psp (afaik) |

quick question about the PSP and tunneling.
will you be working on a PCless solution for the for the PSP as you did for the xbox?
it seems as though things(apps, programs games) can be loaded via the memory card or even as a firmware update. also it looks as though it will also be able to connect to the internet wirelessly out of the box. I know this is a bit premature as the system isn't even out yet but i just wanted to know if you guys are considering it.
kai on the go would be soooooooooo sweet kai built into the psp(firmware) would be even sweeter. ahhhhhh fanboy daydreams. lol jk about the end parts... well kinda . |
