or maybe some halo 2 hacking crews could take a look at and see if the functionality is still there (just disabled) and maybe they can re-enable it. |

I bet this will happen before m$ releases co-op as downloadable content. |

There will never be sys link co-op for Halo 2. Bungie said that themselves, ot maybe they are lying. I do not have the link here now and I don't really remember the reason why they won't have sys link co-op. probably demanded high bandwidth. |

How would hackers be able to implement co-op for sys link if there even isn't any netcode for the co-op? |

why dont you ask one yourself? they can do anything if they wanted to. maybe rebuild it, and modded xbox's can run it? |

Well.. maybe if the hackers reverse-enginered the existing netcode for the multiplayer and implemented it into the co-op. THEN, it maybe would work. But it still is a lot of work to do.
If the hackers CAN get co-op to work over system link, why haven't they done it with Halo? (Halo 1)
Oh well |

OMG.. thats cool.. Maybe there was some netcode for co-op there..
EDIT: I read through that thread now and it seems somewhat believable and another part of me says: "NO, that's impossible!"
I don't really know what to believe. IF it was true... then GREAT! but i'm wondering why bungie didn't implement it by themselves? They said that it wouldn't work because of packet sizes or something similar. They also said that adding Sys Link Co-op never was a part of their "todo-list". |

well heres how I see it. Bungie was at some point developing that aspect of the game. They prolly worked with the code and there probably where some sync problems or something. Well if you remember the announcement for the Syslink NOT being available was right at the end of development hinting that it could have been nearly complete but they disabled it last minute because of timing issues with their release schedual. Now typically if they decided NOT to go through with it, I doubt they would try to remove the code for it because then you get into the issue making sure other network aspects are not affected by this removal. Instead the simpler route is just making it unaccessible to the user in the GUI. There for if all they did was disable it (which could be way off the mark btw, just my thoughts) then all some halo 2 hackers would need todo is figure out if the code is there and if it is possible it to enabled it. Then they could proceed to figure out what didnt work with syslink or did not allow it to be ready by launch day.
Just my 5 cents |
