Hello,
I got an xbox about 3 days ago (it was on a huge hold here in this part of the USA... and I finally got me mine.)
I am thinking about doing a softmod as I do not want to install a modchip.
I am subscribed to XBOX-Live, will XBL still work if soft-mod this?
I really love the media center idea... and the main reason why I want to use XLink Kai is BECAUSE OF XBMC!
I saw it on techtv a while back, without the kai... this totally completed the WHOLE Modding idea! You can use custom maps etc, and have way more fun when modded... but again, I love XBOX Live so much.
If it is possible to run live and XBMC on the same xbox, please let me know. |

If you want to use XBL you will have to uninstall your softmod and any hard modding you have done (like a HDD upgrade) before you can connect to it. Xlink is like a free version of XBL that works with system link games for those of us with mods or that are too broke/not willing to pay M$ for a service as mundane as XBL. |

Oh.
The only reason I want to use this method to connect is because I hear XBMC is great.. I walked into a game store, talked to an official XBOX rep... I asked them how Live was - they said, "I don't play live, I have something called XBOX Media Center on my xbox, and a mod chip."
I saw XBMC on techTV a while ago, and hear about it on forums... would be nice if it would also be able to tunnel you to live games, without being detected of doing mods. |

bitblaster - frankly, I don't know why you are on this forum at all when you said you love xbox live. This forum and site is the alternative version of xbox live. Imagine having to pay $50 per year to be able to play online. The xbox should have been free if we have to pay for this service.
Well, the answer to your question would be NO. You can't have XBMC running AND have Xbox Live. Simply can't be done, atleast you can connect and then get Banned by MS in the process. You can modded it so that you can run XBMC to play games and connect to KAI for free. At the same time, if you want to play xbox live, you can disable your mod (no xbmc) before you run xbox live (don't upgrade your HD though). |
