There is also a Mac OSX version of this guide: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9544

Also, check out the PSP & Kai FAQ: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6322

--------------------------------

Getting your PSP online with Kai

Okay, this guide is written for those users using a similar set up to me. The same setup instructions apply to anybody though, since the only difference between my network setup and your network setup will be the way my PC receives its Internet connection. From the PC to the PSP, it will be EXACTLY THE SAME for you as it is for me.

Your computer must have a wired connection to the internet because setting the wireless adapter in this manner will make it unable to get internet through your access point until you undo the settings
Image

Personally, I'm using a Laptop with a Linksys WPC54GS PCMCIA WiFi Card which I know works (WITH THE LINKSYS SOFTWARE UNINSTALLED).

Please refer to this thread to see if you have a supported wireless network card - http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11469 - there is no harm in trying if yours is not in the list.

So, the bottom line is - if your card isn't on the list then it probably won't work but its worth a try.

Requirements

- Sony PSP.
- PC.
- WiFi card (or a compatible router that runs Kai directly on it - see above link).
- XLink Kai Evolution 7 (& to be registered).
- Internet connection.

There are two major points you must complete before being able to successfully play via Kai:-

Set up your PSP, PC & Kai correctly,
Load them in the correct order.

Setup (PSP)

Switch on your PSP without a game in and select "Network Settings".
Select "Ad Hoc Mode" and choose "1CH".
Now switch off your PSP and put your game in.

Setup (PC)

Depending on your current WiFi setup (if you already have one), you will need to ensure that your set for Ad Hoc.

1. Load up Network Connections from your Control Panel.

Image

2. Right-Click your "Wireless Network Connection" and then select "Properties".

Image

3. Here, (I've removed unnecessary Protocols - may not make any difference) - select "Internet Protocol" then click on "Properties"

Image

4. Enter an IP address from a private range (10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x - "x" being 1 to 254 making sure no other devices are using that IP) and give the subnet of "255.255.255.0" and click "OK"

Image

5. Now, click on "Wireless Networks" tab then Select "Advanced"

Image

6. Select "Computer-to-Computer (ad hoc) networks only" and "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" and then close.
At this point you may want to make sure your firewall or Internet Connection Sharing settings aren't active.

Setup (XLink Kai)

See:-
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=quickstart
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=help
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=faq
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=download

Image

* Red Circled Fields - need to be set up if you need Port Forwarding. Kai Deep Port should remain as 0! If you follow the Quick Start Guide as instructed above, you will know if you have to or not.

Loading Up Correctly

In order for windows to see your PSP correctly follow the next set of instructions:-

Ensure that: your WiFi card is disabled, PSP is switched off, and Kai isnt loaded.

1. Enable your WiFi card
2. Switch on your PSP and load your game then host a game via the menus.
3. Make sure that Windows has connected to the PSP then load Kai. *
4. Check Kai's Diagnostics Mode to ensure Kai has configured the PSP correctly. **
5. Choose an Arena (in Kai) and host or search for a game (in your particular PSP game)

NB: If you the person you are trying to play against does not have "1 Sony" (in Kai) under their XTag, it will probably not connect.***

Good luck!

Thanks for the guide.
I bought a linksys WPC54GS-FR (as I'm french), and after some troubles configuring XLink Kai (I'm behind a DI-604 routeur, and found out that I had to forward ports : I used 30000 for Kai port, and 30001 for Kai deep port), I finally managed to join some races ! It was very laggy, but fun anyway ^_^
I also tried hosting some games, but seemed like noone wanted (or could) join my game.
Anyway, I'm glad it worked. Thanks again !

Hate to clutter the topic with my newbie question, but I figured it's better than starting another topic.

Now I know nothing about wireless networking. Nothing, quite seriously... so I really am taking baby steps here.
I already have a network set up in my home, a wired router with all my PC's attatched to that.

Now, just to clarify, the only thing I need to buy is this, right?

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=52238

(This is supposedly a WLI-USB-KB11 (USB), like on your list)

And that is all, right? Nothing else? (I originally thought I had to buy an access point - I assume I do not?)

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, I just wanna play some Ridge Racers on my PSP online!

Yep - from what I can gather, you're right - although I dont got my unit yet (in the post)..

I think it boils down to something like this:

1.) Get a computer which XLink Kai runs on - get to a state where people can see your ping (you'll always see theirs - needs to work both ways).. read the usual help guides and shit to get that far.

2.) Buy one of the supported USB / PCMCIA / PCI cards - install it, come here and check the guide from Crimson again - try to relate the screens etc to your own card.. to keep is easy, jsut buy the same card he has Very HappyVery Happy

The link above is one for a well recommended (& cheap) USB WiFi adapter from Ebuyer UK. I dont have one but plenty of people online can help you if you have problems.

I got the same problem :'(. the card I have is the exact same one CPhoenix is using, and I followed his guide exactly. my internet connection is thorugh another wireless card on the laptop, while the linksys card is connected to the psp. In the diagnostics mode it says that the card is not locked, and that there is no traffic. Also, the card isn't reci.............holy crap!!!!!!!!!!! as I was writing this, someone joined my game!!!!!!! they left, but it was working for a bit.........
anyway, I was saying that my card isn't recieving any packets, and now it still isn't, but someone could still join my game.....I'll wait a bit more to see if Kai can connect to my psp........

Gamelver, Normally I dont get any activity reported in Windows from my PSP until either someone joins my game or join somone elses game.

If someone joined your game this proves that it does work, however if you dont have any luck in the future, catch me online.

Placasoft, Don't bother trying to get your Nortel Card to work until you have set up your Buffalo Card. Also you shouldn't need to put any details into the Wireless Section of KaiConfig (except what I've pointed out, in the guide).

Both the WLICBG54 and WPC54G seem to run on the same Broadcom chipset so, the setup will be just the same as the WPC54G.
Make sure you do not have the Buffalo Client Manager running at the same time as Windows Zero Config & Kai as I've heard this can cause problems. Check your WLAN Adapter Properties in Device Manager with the similar one's in my other guide.

http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5459

Try those and get back to us with the results.

Any help please. I have a Desktop PC with built-in WiFi which says its a RT 2500 USB Wireless and the PC is connected to Broadband via ethernet cable to my Netgear Wireless ADSL Router.

At the diagnostic page I get the network reachable but the console doesn't show when I set the PSP to host a game in Ridge Racers.

Where do I go from here? All help welcome.

Placasoft, make sure you load Kai whilst you are already hosting a game (in RidgeRacer) and it should be detected straight away.
