i did the same thing about 6 years ago. as for the fingers hurting, put some superglue on the tips of your fingers until you get bigger callouses, if you can handle having to deal with the superglue, that is. a big question is electric or acoustic guitar. some players dont see a big difference, but i play acoustic because i sound like mud on an electric due to my playing style. one good link is harmonycentral.com. they have lots of stuff as far as chords, tabs, and some tutorial stuff, you jsut gotta search. another thing that i did was to sit down for hours and learn harder songs first, say dave matthews stuff. that way the other things come alot easier. when i started teaching my friends, the first step i took was to get them to learn chord transitions, say D,A,G,A. or E, A, G. just keep playing those in a cyclical pattern until your fingers just go automaticaly. not sure how far along in skills you are, so i dont mean to insult you if this is basic stuff, but i hope it helps. any further info from you might help me to help you better. |

If you like Nirvana, I highly recommend learning their songs. They are a great set of fairly easy songs to play along with.
Practice a lot... That's the best advice. But anyhow, if you don't know what tabs are, go to www.taborama.com and learn some tabs, you'll love it.
Also, yeah, Harmony Central / OLGA is a great resource.
If you're looking for a great music community, focused mostly on recording and stuff, then I recommend the www.studio-central.com forums as well as Tweak's articles. He's great, and very knowledgeable. |

That's cool, cause the older acustics sound much better in my opinion. |

.don't worry about the finger pains, they will go away soon enough "No Pain, No Gain"...Also I found a good starting place to be the Ernie Ball books. They are cheap (prolly like 5 bux or less) and they really are invaluable resources. You can probably get them @ any music/guitar store. Anyways, good luck, music f*in rules! |

Yeah - I got into it when i was 15 - bought some Oasis () tab books.. I still can't read music - probably never will be able to - but once you get a few chords down you can bash out most stuff - then just make yourself look cool with effects pedals

Thats true, Oasis arnt everyones cuppa but Wonderwall, Live Forever etc are real piss easy songs to lern on acoustic.
You can Google most songs these days for chords or tab as well, dont stick with a single resourse.
Also a good starter is to join a band, with a few guys of similer talant of course. Its easier to just jam out some stuff sometimes and the added pressure of other people playing along with ya helps concentration.
Then again, what do I know, im a bass player |
