Halo versions not compatible?

i wanted to start a game of halo yesterday. i have the german version. there were about 30 players in PAL arena. i couldn't see a single game and the others didn't see mine when i opened a game. the others were mainly italian people.

so, are the different language versions not compatible? there are so many people online and i can't get a game of halo to work....

btw, other games work fine....

I know that there are two differnet versions of halo at least, the normal one and the game of the year version. These two are not compatible together on system link.

Not sure about the different language versions though, I though all PAL discs were the same? (except for the version mention above)

I think German PAL can play with French PAL, but they can't join UK PAL... I don't know any countries further than that though, sorry. PAL is weird, kinda split up Sad

I think theres another region for PAL too - Spain+Italy only work together.

Weird? Can't it be the Hz you are playing in? Cos thatâ€™s the case with Gamecube! All players need 2 be the same Hz or isnâ€™t that necessary with Xbox?

the strange thing is: i have been in the PAL arena with about 30 people and i wasn't able to see a single game and nobody saw my game when i opened one.

it's demoralizing to see so many people and not to be able to play with them.... Sad

I dont think the problems with PAL versions not working is anything to do with the actual pal regions, its just that they made a different version for each region, there was no point making them compatible, as you could only play system link with someone who is in the same country.

what we could do to help is add areanas for each version.

ie.

halo/ntsc
halo/uk pal
halo/german france pal
halo/italian pal

but to do this i think we need a definitive list of what versions are compatible.

also is ntsc us compatible with ntsc japan?

taz, your list is correct.

UK PAL = United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Australia.

German/French PAL = France, Germany, Switzerland, ...

Italian PAL = Italy, Spain, ....

NTSC = NTSC. All NTSC Versions are compatible.

yeah, please make different arenas.
it's not very helpful if you can see lots of people but you can't play with them.....

I would assume US NTSC is not compatible with Japan NTSC-J. Asian xboxs cannot play US games and vice versa.
I just checked my Asia Halo box and it says NTSC-J

yesterday i tried again to play a game of halo. there were 40 people online in pal arena, but i couldn't see any games and when i opened one, noone joined.... Sad
