With so many updates going on and news items being added regularly would it not be a good idea to create an RSS feed for the site, this way many people using RSS newsreaders will be able to get the news updates automatically.. Just an idea.. of course you could always use RSS-News to read this news feed.. http://www.rss-news.co.uk (shameless plug for my own software of course ) |

depends on what you count as regular.. i think with software an update of more than one a month is very regular, maybe not with world news but certainly in the software world the updates are coming thick and fast.. for me this is just a personal preference as I use lots of rss newsfeeds, xbins, xbox-scene and maxconsole to name just a few of the xbox ones.. |

OK, I believe it's all done (saved TD from going near it )
Although having issues getting it to view in Matzy's RSS reader now. All other readers are displaying it fine. Contacting Matzy to find out why...
Enjoy.
Oh, I also added cookies on to the site. 2 weeks and they expire.
Cheers,
dfunked. |

Wow.. I got a mention on the Kai website.. How humbled I feel...
Firstly, sorry you had to get your hands dirty TD.. you have no idea how guilty I feel about starting this thread..
Secondly, problem in RSS-News is now fixed and an update posted on my site already.. and for anyone who uses RSS-News, please let me know if you have any problems and I will do my best to resolve them as quickly as I can..
Thanks for the mention anyway Dfunked, it is very much appreciated. |

Heheheh... it fell under "website" - so it wa Raf's area
I think its a great idea though - and ive been playing with RSS-News - nice work Matzy.. added a few of the sites I look at a lot (XS, Slashdot, here, etc. etc.) - very easy to nav them all..
I just have this inbuilt hatred of XML ... its like "the ultimate answer to a question which absolutely nobody asked". I mean... lol.. whats wrong with a damn delimited text file?

I have to agree with you.. the idea of newsfeeds in general is great, but using XML for them seems very over complicated for their purpose.. still, it gives the XML junkies something to do and keeps them off the streets plus it gave me somthing to do when writing RSS-News.. and thanks for the compliment.. |
