I've been trying to get the Kai integration in XBMC working more reliably and have finally come to soem realizations...(sorry if this is obvious for some of you)
Using Kai with XBMC has a limitation...Its that when you use Kai as intended, running on a seperate pc, you have the ability to try to connect with different arenas until you connect....
With the XBMC integration, as soon as you select a group to connect to, XBMC goes away, and you are put into the game....If you do not connect, you need to restart the XBOX and go back into the integration and try again....Are you with me on this?
What I think is missing a something XBConnect added which is a feature much like XBOX Live...Basically you tell it what you are looking for, i.e. game, level of play etc, and it keep searching until it finds it...When you are in the game, you just wait and different groups appear so you can connect....
So what I am wondering is, is this in the works for Kai?
I mean if this was in place, then using it from XBMC is a no brainer....You configure what you are looking for, let XBMC launch the game, then wait until the groups show up in the game. You try to connect to each one until you actually get in....
This makes the experience much more elegant and closer to what XBOX Live brings to the table....
What do others think? Am I right or am I missing something??
thx! |

Eheheheh - XBC just added arena support - Kai has had it since first release.. You need to get away from the idea that you need to be in a private arena to play.. Just go park yoursself in the main H2/Americas arena, then load Halo2.. you will see a number of games on your screen to play.

Was I doing it wrong?
So is what you are saying that I should just select Americas, then click Play?
I guess I was under the impression you were supposed to drill down as far as you can go, then press Play....
Then if so, it is my mistake and I will try it this way...
Thanks for the tip! (and sorry for my misunderstanding of how to use Kai!) |

No problem - it takes a little getting used to..
Basically, the /Americas arena is the main place to play - people can choose to make private "sub arenas" under there - but you dont have to be in one to play.

cool...I will try it tonight! It will be great to actually find somewhere to play without going back and forth rebooting the xbox...
fyi..I have an update to the integration which was put into cvs for the XBMC integration....It allows you to list your games dirs seperated by a ";" now...That way you can pass more than one games dir in XBMC's Kai integration for it to find your game to launch.....Its in there now...
thanks again.... |

It didn't work for me. But yeah, XBC pretty much took the idea of Arena mode from Kai and put all these filters on it. I think you won't find anybody using bar 40 Halo 2 users. |

Depends when you go on, if you go on at peak times you can get 5 or 6 games going, but I think majority are still in priv. arenas for Halo 2 because they got sick of the asses not setting limits on the amount of players in a server, hence causing horrible experiences for everyone. |

hey dfunked,
In one of your replies you said "It didn't work for me."
What were you referring to? Was it my patch?
Or were you just referring to the Americas Arena thing?
I just wanted to check, because my patch should be working...so hoefully you didn't mean that.... |
