this is from ign

Quote:
IGNcube: Rumor has it that DS will be going online soon. Why does Nintendo believe in an online model for DS, but not for GameCube?

Reggie: As I said during the E3 briefing last year, for DS it's not about online, but "no line," it's about wireless interactive play. And we're committed to wireless interactive play for DS. Mr. Iwata will have some information about that in his keynote speech. In terms of GameCube, I think in fairness we at Nintendo haven't done a great job of providing the Internet capability tools to our developers to create games for GameCube. We need to address that for all of our future systems and we're doing that. In terms of Revolution and its wireless capability, stay tuned -- more to come. We are absolutely committed to the sense of community and the worldwide sense of playing games against each other. We're going to be delivering that on every future system to the best of our ability.

IGNcube: Will the DS online network serve as an infrastructure for future online Revolution games?

Reggie: About DS wireless Internet play. Yes, we're going to be making announcements about that tomorrow. And there's going to be a lot of activity that we'll be sharing now through E3 and to the end of this year. We'll be launching wireless enabled games on DS this year. Could that framework be compatible with Revolution? Certainly it could. We'll be talking more about that, again both tomorrow and at E3. But it's very important for your community out there to understand that we see the potential for Internet play for all of our platforms to be a huge opportunity and something that we're going to be driving very aggressively.

this means tommrow they will release details about online with the ds....and that the revolution will have wireless in it Smile how awsome Smile

XBox 360 anyone? Rolling Eyes

Nintendo seems to always come in at the end when interest has died. Give them 3 years before you see anything Nintendo online..

not quite 3 years dfunked lol

March 10, 2005 - At the Game Developers Conference keynote speech today, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed that Nintendo will be sending its Nintendo DS online wirelessly to enable gamers around the world to connect to each other in games written specifically for the protocol.

Once the service begins later this year, Nintendo DS users will be able to connect to the service wirelessly at universal Wi-Fi hot spots in use all over the world. Nintendo's in-house development team is already creating Animal Crossing DS to support global Wi-Fi connectivity.

During the speech, Iwata took part in eight-player wireless competition of Mario Kart DS with audience members to demonstrate the local-area wireless support already inherent in several Nintendo DS games. More details on the Wi-Fi service will be revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles this May.

Iwata also used his keynote speech today to reveal that shipments of DS systems have surpassed four million units in North America and in Japan in the 16 weeks on the market. That number will approach six million when the system launches in Europe this March.

During the speech, Iwata demonstrated two key Nintendo DS games to spotlight the unique gameplay aspects and non-traditional gaming of the dual screen handheld. Nintendogs was highlighted to demonstrate the voice and touch controls of interacting with realistic puppies on-screen. Electroplankton also made its debut to show the innovative use of the DS' control properties. According to Iwata: "This is designed to produce harmony, not adrenaline."

although i would use the nintendo online service more often i think a lot of people will still stick to kai even though they are both free. the reason why i think this is because the kai community are all of the same age and i think that the nintendo one may have more kids playing which may put adults off. just my opinion anyway.

Can't you put a ds discussion forum up again? i miss talking about ds games etc. i know there would be problems like people that dont read before posting and thinking that kai is doing ds online again. you could do an off-topic forum for things that arent to do with tunnelling.

There's MORE!

The Nintendo Revolution will have built in wireless and online play, as well.

It will also have full backwards compatability with GameCube games (so now I can get Mario Kart online without needing to buy a wireless adapter and online adapter!).

Super Smash Bros online anyone???

His age is not relevant..

His points are - we host forums for the consoles we tunnel. The DS is not a console we tunnel.

Judging by the quality of the 80's looking 2D stuff which Nintendo are pumping out for the DS at the moment - the PSP is going to clean up stateside and in Euroland anyway.

If anybody wants a DS - I'll let mine go cheap - PM me.

So I take that, as a "we are not going to ever support DS" ? Sorry I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything. It would be awesome if you guys supported the DS, and you'd have a really wide userbase for Kai if you did, reaching more users. DS owners would probably really enjoy your service also, because they could play games online against people also, without being next to them. Sorry if I have wasted you time. I just wanted to say that Xlink Kai is awesome, and Xlink with DS would be even more awesome.. You guys rock! Smile

This also means that there will be games compatable with the Ds' Wi-fi and Kai could tunel these games alot easier. The DS had Wifi the entire time but the multiplayer games that were out werent using it they were using the Private prot that will only connect to DS' and the Sweex Wi-fi USB adapter. So when Animal Crossing DS hits shelves the "infostructure for the DS Online service will be ready and this means that obviously DS users will be able to connect thru hotspots ( inclusing home-made ones with wi-fi cards you can buy at wal-mart ^-^ ) and play Online with Nintendo's Servers.
This also could mean that Kai could Tunnel it because it is online ready. But the part that could be confusing is how to get the ds to config with kai and not going straight to the net. If kai could totally control a wi-fi cards and foward all trafic to kai this it would work.
Everyone as soon as there is a DS Online game out there get it and we will test this to see what it will do.
I would much rather be in an online world with the Kai community in Animal Crossing DS or any other DS online game than any other community. DS on Kai is not Dead yet, its just sleeping.

(Side Note: If i went to the GDC and was at Mr Iwata's keynote i would have been able to go on stage because my birthday was Wednesday U-U)

Famicon is the Japanese name for NES.

Super Famicon is SNES.

Why they already siad it was going to be free so what's the point of somebody else making a program to get the DS online.

The PS2 and GameCube are both free, yet Kai supports them.
