Following TD's post on the front page, I noticed there was a NMP room in the PAL Halo arena ... yet (as far as I know), NMP is only for NTSC?
Does anyone know how/if it's possible to implement NMP with the PAL version, or do I have to get my hands on the NTSC version of Halo? I've seen a PAL > NTSC map converter somewhere but I've a feeling it's only for bloodgulch.
Any help would be appreciated, I really want to play these NMP maps, and more importantly, play them on Kai |

You will need the following:
1.) An xbox with a mod chip.
2.) The NTSC version of Halo.
3.) The NMP pack
4.) Enigma mode switcher (or similar).
Put the box in 60hz, copy Halo onto the harddisk, apply the NMP files. Play.
This setup will also allow you to play "real" NTSC users - the seperate arena is just there so people will get better pings by being in an arena with more local ppl.

Without wishing to be too sycophantic, I felt a flicker of humility when I saw that the great TD had replied in person
Thanks for the info, looks like I'll be hunting down an NTSC version from ebay, but it'll be worth it.

i hadn't even thought about this... aren't all xboxes in uk pal?
Is this method accessable enough? or should i *bug* someone for a pal conversion (don't even know what's involved with that).
The method you describe has the definite advantage of not dividing the community, but if it's not easy then maybe a pal vesion would be a good thing i can try to round up support for. |

So the NMP version only runs on NTSC
but we have a halo/pal/NMP arena?
why not have arenas set up as.
Halo/pal
Halo/ntsc
Halo/NMP
I agree with TD that having a PAL arena gives you the option of playing with people in your own region, and get better pings. but in general terms i think that people will go to the arena that has the most people playing in.
Also, there with the PAL conversion... remeber there are more than one pal version. eg. UK PAL cant connect with Italian PAL etc.
If its just NTSC we all know where we stand and its less complicated.
Also, If you have bought the official PAL halo, isent it a shame that you have to go out and "buy" the NTSC version of the game. |

I don't know much about hacking either, but it seems that making a pal version of NMP would probably be too much work (considering all the offsets are different etc) so I don't much expect one to come out that is compatible with the Halo PAL, especially as any updates to NMP would require twice as much effort (or more, depending on the differing PAL version).
And yes, it's a shame that someone would have to buy the NTSC version just to be able to play NMP. After buying the PAL version, ethically it's understandable to get your mits on the NTSC version without paying for it, as essentially it's the same thing. But technically it's probably illegal.
Ah well, perhaps a game of Halo's quality justifies supporting bungie by buying it twice |

A seperate arena for NMP is a good idea but the simple PAL/NTSC division is too short-sighted.
Halo needs:
UK PAL
German PAL
Italian PAL
US NTSC
Japan NTSC
NMP |

A little followup to the original post in this topic..
Yes the PAL -> NTSC converter from:
http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=69 is only for Bloodgulch based mods so far.
That being said all but 2 of the NMP 1.0 maps are based on Bloodgutch.
So if you can live without "Chill On" and "Boarding NMP" you could get the NMP feel from a PAL version of Halo.
As others have mentioned you'll need a mod'ed xbox and the ability to switch video mode to NTSC and an xbox display capable of handling NTSC. But who here isn't using Avalaunch, a RGB cable and a modern Japanese brand TV/screen?!?
And finally I agree that having a Halo PAL NMP arena is silly and misleading. It certainly made me waste a few hours looking for a PAL NMP mod.. I did see a brief mention from a NMP team member about talking to leading PAL mod'ers about making a PAL version, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Thanks for the info ezekiel.
Fortunately now I've managed to get Halo NMP and it's definitely breathing fresh life into Halo. The only drawback is that the most people with it happen to be either american or canadian and with the netcode being as it is, it makes for rather laggy games.
What we need is the europeans with NMP getting together in the Pal NMP arena. That'd be something else. |

Truth be told i think HaloNMP belongs in /Arena/Xbox/Homebrew/HaloNMP/
Im wondering if there would be some way to make *redirect* arenas
so we could leave HaloNMP under Halo so people will see it but have it send them to the arena i mentioned above.....
But so i have this all strait...
There are 5 retail versions of Halo?
PAL-UK
PAL-German
PAL-Italian
NTSC-USA
NTSC-Japan
? is there any confirmation on that? |

Im sure of the top three.
but cant be certain that NTSC-USA & NTSC-J are seperate.
but could be a good idea to keep seperate. for connection purpouses |
