IPaq as Wireless router

I'm currently using my Ipaq 3660 equipped with a jacket that can support 2 PCMCIA Cards. On the first PCMCIA slot I put a NE2000 card connected to XBOX by a cross Ethernet cable (LAN 10.0.1.0/24); on second PCMCIA slot I put a COMPAQ WL110 Wireless Card (LAN 192.168.1.0/24).
After that I enabled IPROUTING on registry and my Xbox (10.0.1.2/24) can now ping any computer on my 192.168.1.0/24 network and the INTERNET (ie. www.yahoo.com). I can also connect to the Internet by linksbox 0.91. At this point I tried to install Xlink Kai VII on my home PC (192.168.1.2/24) and I can log in my account from PC. So I try to launch Rainbow 6 from my Xbox, I go with system link but.......nothing appears on my performance tab on KAY UI. I cannot see my xbox recognized by KAI. Is it a wireless issue? Can Winpcap 3.0 capture packet fron 10.0.1.0 network routed wirelessly by a WL110? Am I wrong on something? Helps and/or brainstorming are welcome.

You might need to wait for the MAC nomination option in kaiconfig.

i would be intrested to hear if you get it working though Smile

I'll keep you up to date about my progress but what's MAC nomination option? As I know my pc (where xlink is installed) can only see the MAC of NIC connected on its network (192.168.0.5; ARP -a) and it cannot see the MAC of my Xbox (10.0.1.2) behind the iPaq router (This is the standard TCP/IP behavior). Please try to explain me that new planned feature because I'm very interested!

i've read the FAQ (so should you)

unfortunatly xlink kai doesn't support wireless connections. Sad

that's why it doesn't see your console

Some people don't pay attention!

Your console can be wireless!

Your pc cannot! (unless you have the console plugged directly into the wireless pc.)

My Xbox is not properly wireless but routed by a wireless device. It's connected by a cross cable to a dual homed iPaq which wirelessly routes packets to an Adsl router hub. My PC is connected to the ADSL router Hub.

MAC nomination is you will nominate the MAC of the Ipaq (or older wireless bridge) for the MAC of the xbox

that way kai is listening for anything coming from the ipaq and will try to tunnel it. It also causes kai to send the packets to the MAC of the ipac to get forwarded on to the true MAC the Xbox has

kinda summed up but you should get the picture.

Madmax,

What I see as the problem is that you're using the Ipaq as a *router* between the Xbox and the Kai PC.

As I understand Xbox system link gaming it works by UDP broadcast. A TCPIP router will generally not forward broadcasts between subnets as that kinda defeats one of the main purposes of segmenting your network.

A "real" router might allow you to configure specific broadcasts to be forwarded and with the mentioned Kai MAC nomination could make such a setup work. But I dont think you will ever get this working using a PPC device as a router unless programming TCPIP stacks happens to be one of your hobbies. Cool

I'm not sure if the PPC built-in TCPIP stack can do proper bridging, but if it can a change in your network setup on the Ipaq so that the wired and wifi networks use the same subnet could work.
