Quake2X Server Dedicated

I got some new server parts for my old 1998 PC Machine, Specs are low P2 300, 94mb Ram, 3gb HDD, and a Voodoo 2 Banshee.

But I am thinking if I write up a tutorial and make a dedicated 12-16 player server for Quake2X will people join it and play it through the xbox?

My connection is good so u dont have to worry about that at all, i can do TDM or even CTF i can have website stats and so on... post comments and tell me what u all think about this?

I would defenetly play on it.

I used to love playing on Quake 2 online, back in the days when you could only get dial up.

and how do we direct the quake x2 on the xbox to kai it only asks for server???

I'd definitely play - me and [IXS]TX have been planning to play Quake2X online for a while now, that'd give us an excuse to get off Halo for a while Laughing

I can help you to set it up so Kai clients will be able to find it - are you thinking of running the ded. server on an xbox, or PC? (both will work).

I am very willing to add a dedicated server should be up in by Monday June 21 or June 22 depends on how i get everything going, u might have to edit some stuff in Q2X like the address list adding in my ip and port. But I still have to see about that.

I tried the first canadian server on the list, and it was active. I ran into a bit of a problem when trying to connect with my xbox; perhaps someone can help me out there.

I found the file where (I thought) the ip addresses for the address book are stored.. baseq.cfg I think, and entered the the ip of the server there, but it did not show up in the address book screen when I loaded quake2x on the box..

Is there a different file I should be editing, or is it necessary for me to connect a keyboard to the xbox to enter the ip address?

Prolly not a keyboard, but its prolly the wrong file u edited. Im gona take a look at it right now and get some stuff going and server should be up by monday morning ill make a brand new thread and all ok.

Find this file within the root _> /baseq2/
the file name is config.cfg transfer it over to your computer and then open it up with any word processing program (notepad) and scroll down about 75% of the way yull see something like this _>

// server address list
set adr0 "192.168.0.1"
set adr1 "192.168.0.2"
set adr2 "192.168.0.3"
set adr3 ""
set adr4 ""
set adr5 ""
set adr6 ""
set adr8 ""
set adr7 ""

put the server ip address in between the "" i would not touch the 1st 2 leave the ones that are already there but go ahead and change to bottom ones, and ones ur done save it and transfer it back to where u got it from /baseq2/ and overwrite the original and then when u go to server list it should show up the server that u have typed in.

getting the same problem as riao - ive edited the correct file (config.cfg) and i havent tampered with the first 3 addresses (ad 0,1and2) but added an IP from that gameaholic website- my PC connects to the server fine so i know its not an external problem. and i can connect to a game hosted by my PC from the xbox- my xbox just doesnt read that config file.

the reason i think its that the xbox isnt reading the file is because i also tried to alter the player name field (as there is no keyboard to change it with) but that doesnt work either.

Any ideas?

Riao- have you tried editing the player name field in your config.cfg file? See if you can change yours and let me know. Just wanna make sure its not just me Smile

I was edtiting this file, actually. I tried a couple other things, like replacing one of the default entries of the address book to the server IP I was looking for, with the same result.

I too have successfully connected to a game hosted by a pc over a lan with no problem.

Wishy.. same think with the player name.. actually it was different than what the player is named in the games already, unless I was looking at the wrong field.. "player name" was not in the file... here is a couple lines I did find:

set skin "male/grunt"
set name "repi"

so I changed "repi" to "Riao" and uploaded the file again, but my player was still named "player".

I am working on getting it up and running as we speak, contacted Repi also but I am trying all these new things and still not working its pissing me off.
