Is your network reachable? PC + Lappy + Router (YES)
Are you using a port-forward? No
Is your console being detected? No
Brief description of your network setup (include model numbers):
Netgear DG834GT + Netgear WGE111 (Game Adapter) + WG111T (wireless network adapter for PC) + WG511T (wireless network Adapter for Lappy)
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it? Yes Norton, I have allowed internal IP address so that computers that are behind the router can ping & share network drives
Operating System? Win XP SP2
Problem description? I am having problems getting Kai and the game adapter to talk to each other also i am alittle unsure how to set the game adapter up so that it will talk though the game adapter at present i have configured game adapter(GA) to be 192.168.0.100 the modded xbox it currently set to a static 192.168.0.5 (i do not know whether this is correct at present i am unsure how to configure kai with regard to a wireless connection, i have checked with Netgear and they have said that the WG111T does support promiscuous mode, also when i check the routers attached devices it doesn't see the game adapter, also i cannot ping the xbox ip address, if anyone can give me an pointers i would be very grateful, if any more info is required please let me know

Ok let me first get your setup straight:
You have a wireless router, wirelessly connected to:
- a PC (running Kai)
- a laptop
- a game adapter (which is, in turn connected to the xbox)
The easiest part to get it running, would be to somehow hardwire the pc running Kai to the router. If you really want to do it wireless, we'll try, but it it's not guaranteed to work.
1) The fact that you can't ping your xbox, makes me believe you haven't set up the network settings for your xbox correctly. Set the right and make sure your can ping/ftp to your xbox and that XBMC RSS feeds and weather, etc work.
If that's sorted then continue to:
2) You will need to forward a port to the PC running Kai. Forward 30000 (protocol UDP) to the ip of the PC.
Follow these instructions on how to do it on your router (well, almost your router).
http://www.portforward.com/netgear/dg834g-portforwarding.htm
*ignore the setting a static ip for your pc (step1)
Then fill in 30000 in the Kai config tool, (KaiPort), leave deep port to 0.
After done all this, run Kai and enter diagnostics mode (as is says in quickstart), please report if it works and if not, what it says. |

Ok I have got quite far with this now i have now managed to get the xbox to talk to the gaming adapter and to talk to the router the lappy which has a wg511t wireless card in and see everything / ping through xbmc i have even set up movie and music sharing through xbmc the only thing that isn't working is the kai end, within diagnosics it is not picking up my xbox console, now if i config kai to use engine only i can start kai from the xbox and can see users in there and can see there chat on the tv screen kai even says that it it configured from the pc system try with the correct ip address, but if i change the config to normal kai use i cannot do anything with regard to see games nor my xbox console within kai
Thanks for any help |

so also can't see games when you control Kai through XBMC right?
I bet this has to do with your wireless network adapter..
Not a chance to run the Kai engine on something which is hardwired to the router?
And does your wireless NIC support promiscuous mode? |

OK here goes for a better description of the one and only problem i have left......
ok if i run the kai engine so that the only thing you see is the little network icon in the system tray and then i power on the xbox the pc connects to the orbital sync server and then it picks up the ip address from the xbox and displays it on the pc i can then put a game in the xbox and when the xbox picks up that it has a game the xbox places a cd icon in the avalaunch dash i can then press the start button on the controller and attach to the kai messenger arena for that game and i can see the chat from the other users that are in that arena, i still cannot see any games when i load the game through system link, if i change the configuration in kia to use "normal kai use" kai doesn't see my xbox nor can i attach to any games. if i need to give any more info please let me know

Just to add insult to injury this morning I have called the netgear tech support and asked to question do the WE111T & WG511T support the dreaded P word after alittle while the tech guy said that both the cards support it but i may need to download the latest drivers, he said that there is documentation on there website, so when i leave work tonight driver updates are going to be installed, i will let you know, if anyone can think of anything else that i might try please let me know!!!!!! |

Driver updates could work.. But still, I would also suggest to try it with Norton uninstalled.
Let me know how it went.. |

When you run Kai config, go to where it where it says autodetect and lock, autodetect and dont lock, or <insert netork device> ( the insert network device should list all your network devices that are installed) Change that setting to the wireless adapter and try it.
Hope that helps. |

right progress, what i now can a can't do
CAN
through the xbox i.e Avalaunch & XBMC i can connect to kai and through xbmc i can see my contacts and see the games and arenas (this is when i have the kai config engine only (for dashboards)
Also if i set the kai config to Normal Kai use i can see my contacts i can see the arenas i can go into the arenas.
CAN'TS
connect to any games and i have also noticed that when setting kai to normal kai use it doesn't pick up my xbox console, i have also set up the router so that it will let port 30000 through on the pc that is running the kai engine..
any other suggestions, please !!!!! |

Grab a crossover cable, Plug it into your laptop and the other end into you Xbox.
Enable ICS on the wireless card on the laptop.
Put all the settings in kaiConfig back to default (Port = 0) (PAT = On)
Run Kai!
That is the only solution I see to your problem.
Going to call this a problem solved because we can't do anything about wireless setups that just won't work. |
