Because it lags every so often for no reason on default settings when using the latest 64-bit CPU, 1GB memory, the latest Geforce card and one heck of a hard disk.
Yes this is the PC version. No, thats not my PC. Unfortuanatly . |

obviously the first game in a fps series will suck. They made halo 2 so much better than halo 1 so it will sell better and bring more people to xbox and to xbox live. if you dont like it dont play it. But i think its still good even though it dont have everything halo 2 has. I like the maps better in halo 1 than halo 2. Hang'em High pwns. |

IF Halo sucks, then I could only begin to imagine what you think about the orignal Wolfenstein 3D from 1991. I played that game on a 386SX (yes...w/o a math coprocessor) many moons ago.
Wolfenstein cost about $30 if memory serves, and it came on (gasp shudder), FLOPPIES no less.
Alternatively, with a 14.4 modem (then the state of the art), one could download the game in a zippy 3 to 5 hours back then, and even so, from BBS's (the old Telnet ones that had cutting-edge ascii art on their menus...Remember those anyone?)
In Wolfenstein, the was this German shepherd dog, whom, when he 'attacked' you, the animation was a mind boggling 4 or 5 frames, and even that was only variants of a sprite (a 2D rendering of an NPC or object).
The tables (and yes...there were LOTS of tables mind you), ALWAYS faced you no matter where you were in relation to them (an effect of the old sprite rendering).
The AI was so primitive that you could easily predict what to do again, if you happened to die with no sweat.
And the tapestries? Please dont get me started. Talk about control-C ing on a level!
Yes it was true...The ceilings were, I believe, one shade only. The sound was 8 bit, 'just barely' stereo, lo-fi, and very compressed. Levels above levels? Hah! Not even Doom's 3D engine could do that in ID's next generation of FPS!
***Of course by now I am sure that you have figured out that I am trying to be a smart ass here. I remember playing that game so many times, especially during the cold winter nights, all night, for hours and hours.
And the simple thing is this: The reason why Wolfenstein 3D stands as a shoe-in for the '3D hall of fame', as does the original Doom 1.666, was because of two things: First, to even get *anything* to draw in a simulacra of 3 dimensions took in incredible and painful amount of coding at that time (there were no SDK's back then), even with sprites, even with one-color-shaded ceilings.
There were only two other places in the world where one could readily be exposed to 3D digital renderings of any kind: A flight simulator (which drew mainly vector based physical models and terrains), and 3D graphic design, with Sun workstations, or even some old Crays (you know..the computer that you can fit into your living room!) for aeronautical and celestial mechanics sims transposing a variety of scales.
The other reason was, it was actually fun. There were no Teletubbies giving you a big hug when you found a secret door in a seamless stone wall. No bright balloons decorated das verboten corridors. It was fast. It was spooky. remember when a door slammed shut from 2 rooms away? Whoa I think my heart missed a beat there...Hehehe.
It was seemingly endless; I never got bored with it, because, quite simply, it was as if I had a working model of the Wright Brothers craft in 1903, and it felt like no other. I will never forget how I felt, playing that game, all those years ago, with the snow drifting up to the sills, and the smell of 5 hour old coffee in the brewer, as 8 bit 'Gostafos' and 'Mein Lamen's emitted from those old clunky 1991 $10 LabTec speakers.
So I guess that the reason that I mention all of this, is for the reason that I cannot help but recall the very first time I walked over one of the bridges in AOTC , and I just happened to look down for a weapon, and looked waaay down to the ravine's snow covered floor below. And I couldnt help but notice that what I took for simple bushes (they looked like little dots from the bridge), were moving, all the way down there. But why? It wasnt until later when I happened to have a sniper scope that I realized that they were grunts, still AI'ing down there; Serving no special purpose except to carry out their programmed moves. Then it occurred to me, 'this entire level is live...All running at the same time!
So if you have no concept of the thousands and thousands and thousands of coding hours that it took, just to get to that point, over many iterations of 3D engines over the years, then yes..I can see your point about it sucking, I suppose.
But my mind still drifts back to that bridge with the glass floor, and I once again, in my minds eye, peer down to that snow blanketed ravine at 10 power, and I realize once more..
3D games have come a very, very long way since 1991.
But hey, don't take my word for it...When the 360 comes out...Go out and buy the fastest, most adrenaline-secreting shootem' up you can possibly drive on that 360 bad boy...
And then, wait about 12 years or so...
And after the 12 years, try to listen, if anyone mentions how badly that eyeball-splitting xbox 360 game that came out in 2006 sucked, in 2017.
So let us stay tuned.
And, let's see if I am right or not, when it comes.

maybe he knows this...he's asking reason for it to sux..i.e. criticising a game been good or bad ... but criticising a game is a good thing, cos maybe the developer can improve on it or get rid of it |
