i believe as long as there's people around who want to play it, it doesnt have to be put to rest. i still play Phantasy star online and ferrari 355 very regularly online. should i and the people i play with put it to rest?
yes you are right the DC community out there is not huge like PS2 or XBOX but it is still very loyal.

you said it yourself the gamecube has less games and it was still tunneled. besides Virtual on and ferrari 355 are more than enough reason to try to get it tunneled.

mkjones it seems to me that you are not interested in having Dreamcast tunneled and thats fine, but there's people like me who would like to see it done and who think it would be worth the effort.

If you would have asked me 2 years ago, maybe even 1 year ago I would have said this was a great idea. For me the DC is still part of the current generation of consoles, sure its pretty old but it can and has given the PS2 a run for its money in terms of power. Hell I even almost got the SEGA logo tatood on my arse!

But come on, as much as I love the DC, its just not practicle I mean have you seen the system link cable:

Image

Its simply not something you can just plug into your router/PC and start playing with without some hardware hacking to make it so. And as much as I would like to play these DC games online I cant see myself choping and soldering together some kind of cable in order to do this. Plus the cost of ordering one.

Then the tech heads would have to work out even if it uses some kind of 'tunleable' technology. Who knows if it is?

Anyway, if some of the Kai guys think its possible here is some info on the cable if you wanna order one and get started:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=29&products_id=592&

And some FAQs:

http://www.lik-sang.com/faq.php?browse=1&products_id=592&categories_id=29&

Also check out:

http://mc.pp.se/dc/serifc.html

If you remember a similer cable was used to connect the DC to the Neo Geo pocket. Its been hacked. Remember the serial port has been hacked in order to rip games from the GDROM disks.

Little more info on that and where to get one:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-t-70-44y.html#

Thats about it I think. Love to hear what they would think of this over at DCEmu, may give them a bell, I havnt been around for a while Wink

Um no Confused not at all.

The Xbox (1) was however very much like the Dreamcast.

The controlers were very similer. For example there sheer size and the memory card slots.

Both had a strong online presence out of the box.

Both run M$ software, the Xbox of course relies heavily on DirectX and the Dreamcast could run WindowsCE which helped some game development.

Microsoft and Sega worked together for some of the DCs development, it was another case of a company hoping to move into the gaming industry getting (some say steeling) ideas from a company with experience.

It happend with Sony and Nintendo when they worked together on the SNES/PlayStation CD add on (google it) look what happend there.

There were even sniffs at M$ buying Sega when the whole thing went tits up and they had to bow out of the hardware industry. It was however a bad idea with M$ in trouble for being a crazy monoploy anyway Razz

Its white simply becuase thats whats cool at the moment Razz thanks to the apple freaks.

The buttons are the same colour as the xbox pad, so its no different. And the pad is a hell of a lot smaller than the DC pad.

Your not goin crazy but just becuase they are the same colour means nothing Razz

ack to the topic please?'

one thing is for sure, it looks like tunneling the Dreamcast aint gonna be easy...
i think at the end of the day it's up to the xlink technitians to deside whether it's possible or not. you might think it's not worth the effort for a lot of reasons and you are entitled to your opinion. and i think IT IS worth the effort for a number reasons.

Hell yeh if they can work out a simple cost effective system then sure I would crack out Virtual On for some syslink kick arse Wink

Only time will tell I guess, need a true die hard DC fan with some cash in his pocket some time on his hands and some ideas in his head Razz

Its not supported by kai because sega no longer supports it. And you have to buy a seperate ethernet adapter for it and sega stopped making that along time ago. I doubt there is even enough working ethernet adapters in the world to supply all the users that kai would have. It would be like the gamecube arena dead because there would only be 4 games to play and people would get burnd out.

Have a read of the thread, its not a tunnle-able Lan, as it needed servers like Live! does Smile

Some still work tho, even with the standard 56k modem. Check the links I have posted.

Why can't you just hook your DC up to your PC via the RJ-45 cable?

no.. what I was saying is.. with the Broadband adapter for the Dream Cast certain games work with lan... I used to play Quake3 on the dreamcast at lan parties... playing off the PC servers... With no internet connection... Maybe it was a modified game or something becasue it was a copy of it.. but I knwo I've done it with atleast that game...
