Dreamcast broadband adaptors
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=0&products_id=46
Looks like similar setup to gamecube. Apparently dreamcast uses non-standard lan protocols, so it could be difficult to tunnel. I'm not an expert so would have to consult xlink team to see if it's any way possible.

System Link Games:
Daytona USA 2001 (Jap)?
Aero Dancing F - (Japanese)
Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
Ferrari F355 Challenge
quake 3
Unreal Tournament
Some games had system-link as a hidden feature.
Dreamcast was a great console. Sorry I sold mine now . May pick 1 up from pawn shop just to play sonic adventures again. That game had some great graphics. |

Glad someone found it.. In your Face.. lol.. jk... I knew for a fact that you could do Quake3 on it because Fileplanet.com has the Dreamcast map pack for PC so taht they can play each other.. and so taht a PC cna host a lan for the dreamcast... Too bad they didn't do taht with Unreal Tourament. |

While it would be an achievement to include dreamcast in list of supported consoles, I don't think enough people would play it to make it worth while. |

This is interesting. Do you have to have a modded DC for the web browser, email to work? |

Ya should really read the entire thread, everything is pretty much explained and there are loads of links that proove the DC is far from dead
As for it working with Xlink, it wont happen. The technology is just not compatible sadly |

Have you read this thread?
System link games on the DC dont use standard TC/IP technoloy, they use a first party serial cable that uses an unknown conectivity system.
This cable cannot just be plugged into your Router/Network Card and be tunneld as its tottally different technology.
Its like plugging a USB keydrive into a firewire port and expecting it to work! It doesnt even fit the slot!
Sure you can get a BBA or even use the Modem to play online games, but this is not a "tunnable" technology as it requires a server much like Xbox live does. Only its free.
Sad I know
Im gonna go play some Shenmue now x |

It might be possible. Did you look at what remoth posted:
Windows PC- Dreamcast Server Setup
http://www.consolevision.com/members/mterlouw/
this program sets up a dial in server on your computer. the DC dials in to the pc through the modem ( the way i understand it is that it is already installed) and then once connected to the pc there is another app running that is like connection sharing for dial up. Wait... dail up modems dont have MAC addresses do they. If that is true you cant tunnel it through kai. |

ERM Yes of course I know this seen as I POSTED THE EXACT SAME THING ON PAGE 1 OF THIS THREAD
I reffer you to:

Not sure what you mean with your Halo 1 reference? But anyway...
Very few games work with the Dreamcast "sys link" option, and like I said it didnt use a standard cable or networking so to tunnel that would be a pain.
Best way is to check out http://www.consolevision.com/members/mterlouw/ in order to get your DC online using your PC to share your broadband connection, its quite nifty.
Then look over at:
http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/portal.php
To see what games work online, you can also read about how to set things up etc.
Sadly the scene isnt as big as it used to be.... |
If you would look at the thread from start > now you would already know ALL of this guys

In that case what the hell you askin TeamXlink for, a "tunneling" community? Its a different kettle of fish
Get over to http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/ they have been messing around with homebrew PC dreamcast servers for years |

Ironic that you would mention USB as a comparison. The Dreamcast's serial port uses a standard RS232 serial connection, except at a much higher baud rate than PC serial ports (the speed of the Dreamcast serial port is 2M bps - which should be more than fast enough to sync data between the PC and Dreamcast). You can connect your Dreamcast to standard PC serial ports, or to USB ports through an adapter. You wouldn't need to use the actual link cable, as the Dreamcast to PC cable connects through the same port.
The serial connection is available all over the internet and is commonly known as a "coders cable".
There are schematics available for building a DC to USB "coder's cable" available as well (and would probably be the cable needed for this, as you'd have to have enough speed to sync the data). |

This is getting a little boring, but anyway, a few points:
1.) People keep thinking that because something "does not use TCP" that it cannot be tunnelled - this is not the case. Kai (and all other tunnels for games) are *ethernet frame tunnels* - we take the whole frames from the link layer, and move them as one thing. So something not being TCP causes us no problem whatsoever. The PSP, for example, does not use TCP - but works fine on Kai.
2.) Many dreamcase games connect to a central server - we can do *absolutely nothing to help you* with games like this. If the game maker has killed the server, you're SOL.
3.) Some DC games can be locally linked. Sadly, they are not linked using anything which uses ethernet frames - they use their own special cables, transport protocol, etc. We can do very, very little with this stuff. Kai does, however contain an undocumented external capture architecture - so if some clever guy with one of these fancy dev cables can get the data from the wire as a chunk of bytes, and he can put data back on as a chunk of bytes, then we can provide the tunnel behind it. This feature will be documented in the forthcoming evo8 release.
Most of you are pissing in the wind in this thread - I'm sorry to say. Before you ask us to tunnel something, make sure you can actually get us the data to tunnel.

Lock it then
And any chance you could add this to the FAQs so its not asked every other month
Same with the PC game tunneling question
Oh and, keep up the good work. |

Nah I'm not saying it *cant* be done - or even that it *wont*. I'm saying that somebody else has to make an app which can talk to the bloody thing (sniff its data, and be able to send it data back) using its weird cable... If they can do that - I'm happy to have a look..
I just dont think the DC scene has the crew for this sorta thing anymore - shame though - it panned the PS2, and still does.

I voiced it over at dcemulation, they didnt think anyone would work on it. They have some homebrew servers for games like PSO however, so there is hope.
As for the DC generally rocking lets not repeat ourselves |

This can already be done. There is a program that sends and recieves data from the PC to the Dreamcast for use in development, known as dc-tool.
dc-tool can read the data sent through the cable in commercial games, as it doesn't differentiate between KallistiOS code, libdream code, libronin code, Katana code, or WinCE code, etc. It just doesn't do anything with that code, as it wasn't designed to interface with that code. It could certainly be modified to work for your needs. |
