Brief description of your network setup (include model numbers):Modem-Not sure(it is hidden away)
Router- Netgear WGT624 v2 latest firmware
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it? HARDWARE ON ROUTER
Operating System? win 2k
Problem description? Xbox doesn't show up on XLink.

xbox and computer connected to router?
Both wired?
Can you ping the xbox from the computer when in dashboard on xbox?

yes, both connected to router, both with catt5 ( not sure if spelled correctly)

just tryed checking XLink console diagnostic view with Xbox on dashboard, nothing showed up in XLink console wise.

What i meant with pingin the xbox from the pc is this:
1. Open a dos-window by pressing the Windows Start button and selecting the Run option. Enter the command "cmd" and press enter.
2. In the dos-window type the following command;
ping 192.168.1.3
(replace the ip address with whatever the address of the xbox is)

When you press enter either a timeout is given or succesful/unsucessful 'calls' to the xbox. Should the ping fail, the cat5 cable from router to xbox might be a cross-over cable instead of a patch cable.

what is the differance between a patch and crossover cable, and why not just have 1 kind of cable?

A crossover cable is used to connect two computers or NIC's. A 'patch' or straight Cat-5 cable is used to connect a NIC to another device such as a router/switch/etc.

If you have a crossover cable connecting the xbox to the router, that may be your problem (I believe some routers allow you to use a crossover cable to connect to the router, not sure about yours).
