Ah thanks an excellent explanation Daddy
Just one questions left, can you explain quick what port spectrum exactly is. I can't find much about it on Google and it seems to be a big improvement
Thanks in advance |

Just as an update to my last post about XBC's new packet mechanism, I read this quote:
Quote: |
Dramatic reduction in bandwidth needed results in less lag in your games. |
From Tod over there.. Now, appears that Tod is a little confused over exactly what he's done here. Dramatic reduction in bandwidth, for sure - you're cutting the headers right down - but "less lag in your games". That's not the case I'm afraid. Lag is caused by 2 things - 1.) Ping time between the players. We can do *nothing at all about this* - ever - apart from making sure the data goes through our software as fast as possible. 2.) Not maxing out your bandwidth. That's right - *not maxing it out*. Reducing bandwidth used does not equal less lag - unless you were using *all* your bandwidth before.
What XBC's new build does, means that as opposed to using say 150kbps upstream for your game, you'll be using 135kbit. Now that's great - but it changes nothing if you have 256kbit upstream. Now, if you could host 8 on BA before, you could probably host 10 with this - fair enough - but I'm not sure if the instability it causes and the lack of support for TCP, ARP, whatever is worth it - but it could certainly be an option.
Not knocking Tod - it's brave to force a release on users with this in - I think I'll just see how badly it breaks before I make any decisions about resurrecting it in Kai

I believe FireChain is another project. A game I think. Realtime strategy maybe.... |
I thought it was a news site about Dick Chainey |
So then it's not a sausage tribute site? |

I'd like a direct response to this please...
Surely you've considered adding functionality similar to Live's matchmaking service? Doesnt it make sense to be able to filter servers at the push of a button? Instead of trawling through server after server listed "JOIN NOW - NO LAG!!!" only to find it's in Korea or somewhere, but even to filter player numbers, maps, basically everything Gamespy or All Seeing Eye encompasses.
The Kai8 read was very inspiring, keep up the good work. |

My first post, heh
XBC's new Xbox tunnel is the fastest there is right now. This is a fact. The bandwidth reduction will equal less lag and all users can and have confirmed that. Ping will be directly effected by how saturated your internet connection is. Ping google, then download an MP3 and ping google while the download is in progress you will see the difference. There is nothing we can do to improve your base, non loaded, ping but we are certainly helping keep it down. Example, Halo 2 sends out packets every 40 milliseconds. Xlink adds 42 bytes to each one. XBC adds 1. Xmelee, please, don't insult Andy or myself.
Xlink covers more consoles than XBC does so adding this type of algorithm would probably not serve Xlink very well. I have always focused on the Xbox because that is the console I prefer. I commend Andy for being able to do this. I fully understand why his tunnel works the way it does and I would do exactly the same thing. Because I focus on the Xbox, I have the luxury of tuning the tunnel for the Xbox.
Now, lets keep the XBC bashing to a minimum

Hey Tod,
Yeah I was wrong just up there - I assumed you were going for the (risky) injection of UDP onto the WAN interface. Whatever header work you're doing now is news to me - I spent some serious time on that stuff with RC2 - and could get no further than +4bytes - so nice job on the new core - 1 byte overhead is *real* progress - especially for hosts of big games.
I look forward to watching how your guys react to this - I still believe that the benefit is mainly for large hosts - but as you say, the proof is in the pudding - the users feedback will be important.
Either way - good to see you pop your head up here - hope you post some more.

hi...
absolutely great what u guys are doing...!!!
but ia have one question (maybe a few more )
what does this mean?:
Quote: |
Then let's add a completely integrated tourney subsystem - where anyone can make a quick tourney for their friends, enemies, clan, whatever - and have it automatically controlled by the software. The results of that event get recorded on your very own Scorecard - along with your XIG imagery from the match (built in to 8's shiny ground-up new UI). |
does it mean that the results of a game can be recorded by the software?
and puts them into the scoreboard....??
cant wait to see all this new stuff...

Well we did delete a fair bunch of his first posts, if I remember, there were about 4 posts on the same thing, and cross-posting galore. |

hmm.. thats cool that XBC is doing well.. and i do keep both tunnels on my PC at all times. mostly to see how has mroe on at the moment. lol.. But Its nto even the "lag" that made me choose tunnels OR the amount of game support.. it was the community that greated me with open arms over at XLink. Funk knows what im talking about. Him and Taz were 2 of the big factors for me to choose XLink. XBC has always worked fine for me.. not nocking the tunnel at all. Respect goes to anyone htat cna even get something like this working(even xmelee and gamespy). well.. maybe not gamespy. ha ha. Anyways.. Just thought Tod should see a personal reason of why someone taht wanted to help out his community chose to go otherwise... Becasue I played XBC before XLink and offeded the same to them before i offered it to XLink and i got pushed away. cya
