I have the quite decent Blueyonder broadband connection of:
- 750k down
- 128 up
More info is HERE
The only issue I have is the upload speed maxes out at around 14kps which isnt much good when a friend of mine on a similer 128up service can get around 30kps
Other than that its an OK service for online gaming.. I notice only little LAG ( ) with games like R63 and TopSpin.. However, as ever HALO can be a pain.
When I host games on my pitifull upload speed with Halo its shocking if more than 1 person is playing the game this really pisses me off sometimes.. so I started to think..
Would an upgrade help? I mean really help??
I could get Blueyonder 1.5mb (more info here) which is supposed to increase upload to 256kps..
But what I really want to know is.. Would it be worth it? I mean, I dont wanna go wasting extra £££ per month when it wont help my game hosting or playing.. You know what I mean??
SO, if anyone uses the upgraded service and knows if it really DOES help then post or if anyone has similer services then post your experience... |

actually you would be surprised how much better 256 is over 128
especially when you are talking about gaming.
If it isn't much more i would make the switch without thinking if i where you.
Hopefully your new provider would do something about your poor connections if you have them too. |

in the U.S.A. there is a company called comcast, it is cable internet with 256 kbps upload, like die-hard said you would be suprised how much better 256 is better than 128 (die-hard has comcast, so he knows ) it reduces lag greatly but is starting 2 get expensive ( about $70, do the math for £) but it i definitly worth it. T1 or T3 is definitly NOT worth it, it is like $700 /month! only rich ppl, companies or schools can afford it (schools usually share the bill) |

Well I would stick with telewest and upgrade to there 1.5mb service that gives you a 256 up speed... I just wish I knew someone that has this service that uses Kai? Just to see if it would really be worth it...

Tell me about it! In the UK Broadband is very expensive, mostly becuase of a distint lack of competition AND the fact that not all areas are have Cable... I do however get a good download speed for my cash, 750k compared to the standard 1/2 mb.. |

XC has basically got that set up - he went up from the 600/128 about a year back - I would say it's more than worth it.. the 128 -> 256 upload jump makes you basically able to host every type of game on Kai with no problems... go for it

Wow. I had no idea how good we have it up here. Right now I am paying $35.00 CAD ($26.48 USD, £14.29 GBP) for a 1.5/384 dsl connection. If I lived closer to my central office, I would be getting 3.0/800 for the same price. Now this is with a 10GB cap, down/up combined.
My cable company has just given me an offer I couldn't refuse, however, with an unlimited connection: 5.0/800 for 44.00 CAD/mo. ($33.32 USD, £17.95 GBP). All I have to do is purchase the their DOCSIS modem fo $80.00 (60.58 USD, £32.66 GBP), and I get 1st mo. internet and television for free, which almost pays for the modem anyway.
It's good to be Canadian |

Yep, you really cannot host with 128up, but can to a limit with 256.
Switching to 256 will also eliminate any voice lagging problems you may encounter with 128. |

Yes looks that way, but I would much rather have equal up/down speeds its a bummer how they always lockdown upload speeds, I mean? It cant be that much of a draw on an ISPs resoruces...
This thread has gotten me ass pissed of seeing how much of a sweet deal people in the US/CAN are getting |

fastest package you can get from them is 4000/384 for $99/mo
but the one i have and that one are the ONLY 2 PACKAGES COMCAST HAS |

I also pay $60 per month but only get 3 down/ 256 up. The west cost of USA has it good because they new lines added all the time (cuz of quakes) so they have cheap costs, more bandwith |

Wouldn't that make it more expensive 'cause of maintenance costs? |

HEY its funny that you picked up on this post
I called my ISP last week about the new "online gaming pack" they do.
Basically if I upgrade to the 1.5mb down 256up package I get a free Live! pack with headset 12 months subscription and a game.
ALSO you get a 2nd IP address just for your console, I assume your Kai PC could use this too maybe
Thing is the upgrade is an extra £10 per month.
I can get the "same" service now simply by paying an extra £5 per month but I will not get the speed upgrade, just the xbox stuff and the 2nd IP.
Anyway, theres some more info on blueyonder.co.uk I belive, If anyone wants to look |
