as long as the admins/moderators are the only ones with power to ban/demote users this should work well.

and kai MIGHT think of limiting users ban requests maybe on a monthly basis. that way a user will only want to use their ban requests for users they have a VERY strong opinion about. not the casual gamer wanting to ban a newb for joining their game one night---this might also throw up red flags to the admins if on one night 10 users decide to use their monthly ban request on a single user.

ya well if he had a strong feeling about someone he just doesnt like then he can use it...the ban feater will be used more emotionaly the how its suposed to use if its given in the hands of unexperienced people....keep it in the admin/mods hands

just to clarify my last post

give users a certain # of REQUESTS for bans to submit to the admins/mods. the admins/mods can only ban people, not any ol' user.

this limited number of requests might also help the amount of time admins are spending on investigating the ban requests, but i do agree emotion can and will play a part in some requests for bans.

yes good idea, perhaps limit it to a few a day, so we dont get some jack ass pressing the report button on everyone in the Halo 2 arena.

I agree, I think with Taz' plan infuzed with the limited number of ban requests per day this system would work flawlessly. It would weed out any assholes that do get in by either a) Finding that they have submitted way to many bullshit ban requests, or b) Have had a few truthful ban requests made against them. Can't wait to see the results.

Sounds like a good idea. It also goes back to that whole positive and negative feedback thing, I think.

I've got a few questions.

When, as said before, person A bans person B because of personal reasons, the guy (lets call this guy person C) who sponsers person A can ban person A. But how does he hears from the abuse. Where is the proof. because person C is more likely to believe person A than person B.

The next question. This one is kinda hard to explain. Imagine person A sponsers person B. Then person B sponsers person C. After person C checked in, person A sponsers another guy, person D. Are person C and person D able to ban eachother.

Well I hope these questions are anwsered. I think it's a good approach. There will be found solutions for the minor problems. keep up the good thinking Idea

I have been giving this topic a lot of thought, as I do not have a lot of time to play; I do not have a lot of time to meet other players.

What if a sytem was presented that was very similar to what is used in Ebay. Each tag could be ranked by other players. If a player was racist, then those who he/she offened, could rank and comment on his tag. If your tag goes too low, then you get banned for a time period. If it repeats, then you would be banned for life.

Much like ebay, you would know when you played a person, what their rank was. If you are running the game, you would have the right to ban a person for cheating or whatever; based on their rank.

Just something to think about.

That can be easily abused...

Most of the "High Rated" people on ebay for example sell fake items to themselves (other accounts that they own) so that they can rate themselves higher...

May have been asked already but there is no effective way to search a long thread.

What would stop people from effectively inviting themselves?

I personally like the idea of this system but it seems like it will definately limit the userbase size, and limit global appeal. Private games are a solution to abuse and so are hosts banning abusive users from their games?

How can you invite your self to use kai if you have no invites or access to kai in the begining? And if you had access to kai why would use up an invite sending it to your self?
You dont need to invite your self already have access to kai.

I personally think that kai should have a imediate update that will give host that are not in private rooms the ability to ban cheaters from their game. I think that kai should sit back and watch the results of this measure and then take further improvement actions on the idea in the future. Most cheaters will keep going into rooms that are not privetly run because they know you can't ban them. Even if you stop and make another room they will join that room and do the same thing. You can't talk to them. They will continue to ruin our gameplay. Mad

This brings up the question, Why would you even make a game in the public arena if you know that you're just gonna get more lag and cheaters? If you're to stupid to make a private arena then you deserve to have your game wrecked by lag and cheats.

If it were possible it would be a great addition but unfortunatly the game devs would have to add a kick user option in their lobby or game menu to ban users that you dont have power over ( in the main room of halo 2 you cant kick anyone out of that arena. When you create a room you become moderator for your room giving you power to kick them from the room. If you want to controll cheaters in your game then create a private saying no cheaters in the appropriate arena.

But it is also easier for users to get players for their game if it is in the main room. When i make private rooms no one joins them. I have t1 in my dorm and the public arena's lag doesnt bother me at all Wink

how about user voting..where members get to vote if a player needs kicking from a room or ban from kai. Similar script is used in CounterStrike and other PC games, where players just type
Code:
/kick [username]
/ban [username]
and if say example, 5 kick votes player gets kicked from a server or about 10 votes gets ban. Confused

That's like what someone suggested where a majority vote of people in an arena would ban someone. There is some merit to that, although I think the admins should have sole banning power and the votes should be sent to them. Although...that could make for a lot of work for the admins. Perhaps in that case, they could create a poll on the forums or such for the removal of certain offenders. Something like that. Or maybe the opposite, where users can create polls and vote on them and the admins can review them and take action accordingly. There are a lot of ways it could work.

That would be great. But for it to work completely hosts need a headset to tell the people in game to use the ban code. Also there will be people who will find a way to abuse that. For instance, there could be a group of people that just dont like anyone and they could all choose one person to target. If the number of ingame bans were listed on your profile card then you could see if they behave often or not.

Its a bit late to wade in here but this is a simple copy/paste of the reply from the front page of teamxlink that I submitted 2 weeks ago.

In a nut shell for those who dont want to read the whole thing, its about cumlative room bans over a set time period which result in a kick.

Kicks to accrue and then a total ban. Simple we can do it in forums, it should be possible here.

Code:
I am not a God wanna-be but I have killed off some really good games because of some real pratts who wont shut up – play straight – or a just plain dicks.

As a clan-admin/leader I would feel that the 25% punishment rule could not work on the simple fact that I am not my brother’s keeper, I cannot be here 24/7 keeping an eye on my charges (at last count we have 130 people registered at our web site) nor would I expect my sponsor to do the same for me – the problem becomes exponential and what you are suggesting is to extract some punishment on the father for the crimes of the son.

My suggestion is that games can only be played in private arenas not in any of the central arenas and the people who are opening rooms for play have the following power. Rather than simple room bans – invoke a multi staged 5 minute to 24 hour logged and timed server ban, the reason for the logging on their account is so if the (banned) person in question comes back and tries his caper in another room and is kicked by another room admin he/she is elevated to level 2 ban and that person does not start from the start 1st ban again…it will also make them think twice about doing what ever they were up to again. …..and if the assailant does not come back to the same room after their ban and finds a game elsewhere that is more to his/her liking or a room admin that can tolerate the behaviour and there is no carry one - no real harm done maybe even a lesson learnt.

1st ban 5 mins No KAI time – with a typed reason
2nd ban 30mins No KAI time – with a typed reason
3rd ban 24 hours No KAI Time – with a typed reason

I personally would like to see the sponsorship thing as a method of joining be implemented at some level – not as a method of policing but as a method of ensuring good quality, honest players are using this outstanding service.

What ever power the masses have some will find a way to abuse it to their own personal gains.

Alright, I'm fine with having a way to identify and remove "bad" users. However, I don't have an X-Box and I don't play Halo 2. I get on here every so often to tunnel my PSP and play some Wipeout Pure (and possibly THUG2 if anyone's ever playing that). That being said, you can probably figure out that I'm not on very often.

I generally stick to the PSP area, and I don't notice the cheating and the racist stuff, but it's probably because the PSP area is one of the smallest areas of the service.

As someone who only comes along every once in a while for a few races in Wipeout, the system suggested would punish people who don't play on here frequently because it restricts access based on your rank.

I don't have the solution to this. I'm just thinking of the problem I (and I'm sure others) will face with the new system.
