A post on the teamxbox forums claims to have some interesting new details about Microsoft's XBox 360 Halo 3. The story offers some interesting insights into possible directions the game will take and we have to admit that they sound positive, if true.

When reading the details below please bear in mind that the post starts ...I've got a friend who is the uncle with someone working at the offices of Bungie. While we are sure that people who work at Bungie, possibly on Halo 3, have uncles, even the poster of the entry would have to concede that such an introduction is not a confidence booster.

According to the family involved then:

- Halo 3 will have a darker and more gritty story than the previous games.

- Bungie is working hard on maintaining an online cooperative mode supporting more than two players at once.

- Halo 3 will feature an impressive amount of cinematics. The opening scenes take place thousands of years before the timeline of the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

- The game will have a multiplayer mode pitting players against bots in scenarios directly connected to the story of the game.

- Bungie is also working on a map editor and movie maker which will come on a separate disc, and it has an entire team working just on these two projects. Players will be able to send and receive their maps/movies through Xbox Live.

- Zanzibar, Sidewinder and Hang Em High will return to the multiplayer mode, completely reworked. Zanzibar will be mangled and torn apart as though after the battle, the sky will be dark red. Sidewinder will have four legs instead of just two, with bases at each end. Hang Em High will have a massive tree at its center and the structure will be deteriorated.

- Bungie's target is to be able to support more than fifty players on Xbox Live for certain maps.

The information is very precise so we have to consider that it is either authentic or a deliberate hoax and not simple misinformation. Either way this news is entertaining and since Microsoft is unlikely to comment on any such story (why ruin the free publicity?) we are free to speculate at whim.

Expect a lot more Halo 3 hype as the, expected, spring release date approaches. After all this time Halo will not just be competing against other games but against an entire next-generation console; PS3.

Real or not at least we got something 2 think about when it comes down 2 Halo 3, IMO The Halo fans are gonna be tied down 2 there couches 24/7 when this comes out Wink

I think its BS. Halo has never been about the story. The #1 has the best story, out of the 2. 2 was mainly focusing on multiplayer/online (hence the addition of xbox live support and the reworked system link)
But they have said that the new xbox live will support 50+ gamers on one map and halo 3 is going to launch when the ps3 launched.
but why make the opening cut scene to be 1000 years before halo 1, to tell how the halos were built, who built them and why? That seems logical, but what does this have to do with the continuing story of master cheif "finishing this fight" un less he fights the creators of the halos.

It is also like m$ to make public real news via non trusting sites (look at the first pics of the 360, alot of people were making their own in photo shop, and most of us thought they were fake.) they plant information and expect the masses to think they are fake and then they turn out to be real.
IMO the 360 wont have enough gas to make it through the holiday and wont be big untill halo 3 gets on the shelves. Sales of Xbox and games were low between the launch of halo 1 and halo 2. People will be playing halo 2 on their old xbox (sense that the 360 might not be backwards compatable or halo 2/2.5 wont be on the HD) untill halo 3 comes out. Then they will buy the 360. I think that the mtv special was bogus. Generating hype with a taped, scripted "special presentation". I wasnt blown away by it. I was looking foward to it but i was dissapointed by it. Oh well enough of my critisism. Halo 2 is great. Its alot of fun playing with my friends and on kai.

Why not? It works on PC, and with the Xbox 360 being more powerful than any PC at the moment, there shouldn't be a problem. Besides, it depends largely on the hosts connection as well.

Its a shame Halo3 wont live up to the hype that it will be getting. Quite frankly Halo2 sucks big time, nothing has changed from Halo1 with the boring levels and level design, so i doubt this will be any different. Only good thing is the multiplayer which people i for 1 dont pay for a game just for multiplayer.

The majority of people buy halo 2 for the multiplayer. The only good thing about the campain is to hone your skills and unlock foundation w/o live.
As for doom 3, people buy it because its doom and because its cheaper to play than on a pc (where you have to supe up your pc just to play it at low res.
Jade Empire was a taste of new flavor to xbox (good rpg) people baught that because of the hype. I have seen many used coppies of JE at stores and on the net it got low ratings. the halo franchise is the main reason why peope own xboxs. You cant play halo on anything else (other than pc) There really arent any must have xbox exclusive games besides halo IMO.

-I really hope there are bots and a level editor but I am doubting it. It pissed me off to find out that Halo 1 and 2 didn't have bots. Such a simple little edition. Since my friend lives too far in the country to get broadband anytime
I go over there its just 1 on 1 sometimes we have a third person, but anything less than 6 is dull to me.

-I also doubt the 50 players online, that would take alot of resources, and would almost be too much. 32 would be the most I would want to play.

-I love Zanzibar I hope it does make a return.

Can't wait for some official information to be released, especially screenshots!!

It could have been better apart from the fact that the soundtrack completely bored me, it never seemed to suit the action for me (sometimes it just wasn't there). Also I could never tell the difference between Keys and Cortana, they sounded the same Razz And half of the time you were too busy fighting to listen to them.
