Hi, I have an upload of 756 and when i host, people start complaining that it starts to lag when there are 6 or more people, and when my friend hosts, he can hold up to 10 people and we both have the same type of internet. What can be the problem? Sad Sad

could be anything from bad setup, firewall setting, to you running internet sharing programs, such as Kazaa. Confused

For confirmed knowledge, I would suggest doing one of those speed tests just to make sure you know the correct upload speed. This is only just to give you a confirmed reference. Then, try hosting a game again and see if the lag still persists. If so, there are three possible reasons: firewalls and bad setup (as stated by redwolf), or the connection between your peers. Remember, the closer, the better. Very Happy

Not to my knowledge. As long as the programs (which may be active) you use don't share the internet connection, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Not completely sure. I want to say no, but then again, I'm not sure. Trial and error is your option here. I doubt it'll make any difference whatsoever IMO.

Closing these programs while you are host is not really necessary unless you are sending things back and forth to your buddies (pictures, songs, not text). You can use a program like _DU Meter_ which I don't believe is free, but has a 30 day demo if I'm not mistaken. You can use this to see how much bandwidth your computer is actually using while hosting as well as other programs that are using your upload.

exiting any programs running will improve your speed. Also in some areas Cable internet can be slower than normal if there are alot of other cable users in your neighborhood. To minimize lag, create a private arena and play there. If you set the number of users to a smaller number you can play with less lag and less complaints of lag from the players in your game.

Edit: If you are using DSL your upload speed is slower than your download. Cable is ideal for online games.

Use this to monitor your outbound bandwidth.
