Is your network reachable? yes
Are you using a port-forward? no
Is your console being detected? no
Brief description of your network setup (include model numbers):
Linksys WRT54GS router to PC and Xbox 1.6b w/ X3 & XBMC
Do you use a software firewall? Nvidia FW that came with mobo turned off
Operating System? Win XP Pro
Problem description?
FTP=works Internet=works Ping=works Kai engine=is online Kai-xbox= appears to be online, games don't find anyone and kai on pc is not detecting console. Both static and DHCP tried, changed cables all to no avail. Friend came over with retail Xbox and was up and running in no time. So I don't think it is the engine.

Any thoughts on the matter?

and two more things, my friend came over and tried to figure it out, a X-box genie compared to me and he said that my original factory dashboard is gone. could the two be tied together? And the other, Why do I keep hearing about people reinstalling Windows and this fixes the problem?

Did you friend use the same cables? You only switched the 2 xbox's and it worked? If so, the problem must be with the configuration on the xbox itself.

You mention xbmc. You are not using XLink Kai within XBMC, are you? If so, just use XBMC to start up the game via My Programs > Games and use the Kai UI on the computer to navigate to the correct game arena.

By the way, you are using the Java Kai UI? Does that one have a diagnostics mode? Try the default UI and see what Diagnostic Mode says about Network Reachable and (most importantly) about Console found.
More info about this in chapter 5 of www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=quickstart

as for the java use, I had tried both. . . it is just that I had java currently setup trying to see if that would've made a difference.

I got kai to see my Xbox by using the wonderful utility ConfigMagic.
