Gamecube configured properly, still can't connect

I have my Gamecube on a wired connection to my wireless router, and my friend has the same. According to the Kai diagnostic, both of our Gamecubes are configured properly. We both try to connect simultaneously, and more often than not, he connects, but I cannot. A few times, we detected each other, but only for a split second, after wihch it goes back to searching. Can anyone help?

do you play mkdd?
you both have to use the same hz. like you use 50hz and your friend also have to use 50hz.
your windows firewall have to be off!
