its all about dreamhost!
http://www.dreamhost.com
If you enter promo code MAXIMUM when purchasing a 1 year subscription, you get one whole year for $22! (Its the Crazy Domain Insane package, and there is NO contract to stay signed up with them)
Well you are probably asking, what do you get for 1 year? Try this on for size,
20GB (yes that Gigabytes) of Webspace (oh and I think every week you get more space!)
1TB (Yes, thats Terabyte) of Transfer limit PER MONTH!
Unlimited MySQL!
500+ (or it could be unlimited now?) Email
Any domain of your choosing!
and an ass load of other things as well!
I use dreamhost for my website and I have yet to find a downtime on my webspace!
Highly recommended, and I dare someone to find a better deal for shared hosting! I dare you! |

take your domain? what do you mean by this?
I technically own the domain http://www.amadeusdesigns.com and i payed for it through dreamhost when I bought the space.
(you can of course buy extra domains at say, GoDaddy and link them up to your dreamhost website) |

If you sign up a domain with them, don't they lock you in to hosting with them? Later on if you decide to stop hosting they charge you heaps to get the domain back?
Maybe I'm thinking of something else.. |

I'm using Jumba.. it's Australian based hosting, which makes me feel somewhat safer. Uploads are a LOT faster, and so is access.
$36AUD per year for 500MBspace/5GB bandwidth per month and all the usual shit.
I just have to ask,
a) What is the point of 20GB webspace when you'll use about 100 - 200MB?
b) What is the point of 1TB of bandwidth unless you think you're running the next Google?
c) Who *REALLY* needs unlimited MySQL databases?
d) Who needs to set up 50+ email addresses for themselves (unless deciding to spam)?
I mean, $22 isn't bad at all, but I would definately NOT put my shit on DreamHost. Why would you want to share your hosting with all those people that also take up on the offer? I guess US-based hosting is something I really hate being in Australia, so if you live down here, check out Jumba (http://www.jumba.com.au)
$2.95AUD per month is peanuts (for us anyway, our bandwidth costs are MUCH larger than the US and Canada). The business plans are also 50% off for the next 7 days.
These guys offer almost one-on-one support with the people running the show. In fact they frequent the Whirlpool forums (http://www.whirlpool.net.au) and answer questions very quickly. |

i think the point would be similar to gmail, not that you would really ever use it all, just that you never have to worry about filling it up.
So its not really about the numbers, but I can say that the numbers have really helped me, check this:
Webspace, I use about 2GB of mine, and I have done another site that also used 5GB , so 20GB of space is actually very nice. That same site actually used very close to the bandwidth limit per month, why? because it was a gallery voting page, so everyone that went there was downloading most of the 5GB of files (it was mostly video ) Do the math, 200(viewers) x 5GB = 1000GB, basically approx 1TB .
Also, im doing work for a small business which uses that same space, we have over 200 emails going through it
As I said, I havent had any problems with them, speeds have been great.
They are based out of LA so if you are in Aussie or the far east, it may not be the fastest servers, but for Euro and US, it is definitely a solid deal. For no other reason, you might as well get it to use as storage because its so damn cheap and customer service has been great |
