I went to a local game store (EB Games) and they had a display for when u preorder Halo 2 you get a metal box, so i lookked on the back of the box on display there and it said System Link 2-10!!! Only 10! At least in Halo there was 16, this is gonna suck if that happens........ |

well it prolly only means 10 connected xbox's, as opposed to halo's 4 so it prolly aint that bad...especially if they let multiple people per xbox...this means a much higher upward limit...i dont think thats bad |

I am not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that it was going to be one person per Xbox so if this is the case it should get more people in a game than most of us are use to. Let’s wait and see how it goes once it’s released. |

well lets face it, theres never more than 10 ppl in one game of halo anyway. i mean the most ive played with (which is only once or twice since i started using tunnels) is about 6-8.
i'd love it if more ppl could play together in one game of halo but i just never see it happening and thats why i dont really play it that oftern esp when the larger maps would really benefit from having loads of players on it.
maybe halo 2 will address this issue, i dunno, but at the end of the day if its anything like the first game, there wont be much point in having more than 10 players anyway. |

the only reason that there is never any games with more than 6-8 is because when that game actually started, no one has been able to host, but that all changes because Halo 2 has the Xbox Live so system link will have less lag..... |

Check out IGN.com who have a handson with the beta version.
They claim that you can have up to 4 players split screen online. |

I've had a hands on with the beta running system link, at the Gamestars exhibiton, and it was 5 per side, so a 10 player game.
I'm guessing that's the max for sys link, unless there's more than 1 person per xbox supported. TBH, I can't see 40 player games (4 per Xbox), or even 20 player games being available in system link.
It was more than enough for the Zanzibar map though and it was hella fun.
Also, because of Halo 2 now showing each player's badge above their head it was much easier to find people on the map and get into the heat of the action. So it should stay pretty intense even with 10 max players per game. |

I guess when I did some research i found i was wrong..........and so were u guys!!! I went to http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=readyforhalo&p=467313 and I quote
Quote: |
Now that Halo 2 supports 16 players on System Link, with voice support and a screen for everyone who wants one, it's likely to be just as popular as in the original Halo. Maybe even more so!
|
So u can have up 16 players, probably only 4 xboxes |

I really hope that's right m8.
The only reason I wonder about how true that will prove to be is...
That was put on the Bungie site about a month and a bit or so ago (from what I remember), way before the beta was done.
I guess the only way to really know for sure is just to play the game when it comes out.
I hope it will have 16 player sys link but even if it's only 10, I'll still be one happy mofo when I put that disc in my Xbox.
EDIT: In fact, thinking about it, I might actually prefer 10 player support with 10 Xboxes, rather than 16 player with only 4 Xboxes. It'd be perfect for a maaaaaasive Halo 2 tourney on Kai. |

I hope its more than 4 xboxes can connect and you can set up dedicated xboxes.
i expect that it will be 16players and you can have up to 4 poeple on one xbox.
so that you could have 17 xboxes connected with 16 playing and one dedicating. |

Sorry to barge on all of your hopes and dreams. But halo2 has xbox live. And XBox live rocks. It just hasn't had halo on it. But I think if you have the money just go out get xbox live and play halo2 on it till ya drop. Cause if you got good connection now on xlink then youll have great games in halo2. I can imagine it now...... 16 player zanzibar with all me' buds walkin around ..... beating people up with energy sword...... it makes me all tingly inside.
Well if this new xlink delivers then you could always just stay with xlink. |

Or if you'd like to keep away from the masses of geeky and pimpled face teenagers screaming swearwords down your headset because daddy bought them a new present, you can stay here. I think as time wears on, Halo 2 on Live will be ridiculous. Just look at the amount of shit-talking that goes on at Halo's "home", XBC. After a while I think some people will get fed up and prefer to play on here or XBC (not in the masses, but still). |

That's a display case.. They've never been accurate in my experience.. My local GAME store usually displays boxes that have wrong ESRB ratings, and such...
Anyway, Bungie have *officially* confirmed 16 players system link. Official.
They also said they could have easily done 24, but it would be at a sacrifice of some detail, and interactive environments... They went on to say that 32 would have been possible, but at a pretty big sacrifice, considering the quality of Halo 2's graphics and such...
Anyway, I'll see 15 of you in game soon
Edit: Oh yeah, and they explained how it will work for XBL. You can have 16 players in the game, how you get 16 payers is up the the people that join. If lots of singles join, then you could end up with 16 boxes, each with one person... Alternativey, you could get lucky and get 16 from 4 boxes. Just like sys link really. |

key phrase highlighted...
16 players ... 16 screens ... 16 xboxes |

Ah, found it:
Bungie wrote: |
The Facts: Halo 2 will support 16 players on Live. It will support up to four players per split-screen, on System Link or Live, but there will be a maximum of 16 players in any game. So if there were four players on every box in the game, that would be four Xbox systems total. One player per box? 16 boxes. Two players? Eight boxes. You get the picture. Now, there are plenty of good technical reasons why 16 players is the limit, but only in reference to Halo 2. If the game was simpler, smaller and dumber, you could fit loads more players in a server.
If, instead of battling Spartans and Elites throughout massive interactive levels, blowing up fusion cores, boarding tanks and flying Banshees, you simply moved cubes around a grassy maze, we could probably do 64. But no, we had to go with the whole Covenant/human/vehicle interaction model. Hence, 16 players. That makes for a nice balance of performance, graphics and gameplay balance.
Rumor Rant: While 24 players could have been stretched out (at the cost of other features) anything more would be stretching credulity. That said, it was never a wholly unreasonable rumor. And who's to say Bungie didn't consider it? But 16 it is. |
So yeah, what faceless said. Though they don't mention sys link in it's own section anywhere, suppose it's because they need to promote the XBL side lots more, after all the work, and since they're w/ M$. |

i think its gona be a one player pre xbox online and 4 player offline mulit-player,the reason why i think it will be one player online is cuz crimson skies only supports 2 players online with voice, and halo 2 is gona have better graphics and game play so all the xbox can handle is one player pre xbox with voice but it still might be able to have up 16 players online! |
