i can not wait for the nex xlink! so far i have been playing on warppipe because sadly there are hardly any players on xlink but everybody i have played with i tell them about the new xlink and that it will be faster than warppipe, they always ask for where to download it and i have even played on warppipe told a person to download xlink and then we continued our gaming on xlink, my goal is to get the warppipe community to xlink so there are more players, once they see how fast it is they will not be able to resist. |

im hoping for some more users too. The new build sure is faster.
I'm not really holding my breath for a big warpipe migration tho. It seems like most people (not all of them) there are a bit too biased to give kai a fair chance.
their loss... |

Kai need less/better GUI.
I'm testing both programs, and I am still 100% confused over the Kai GUI.
TD showed a "lite" gui before for Kai (Mario Kart style) before.
Kai need to have an option to kick everything out that is not Gamecube.
So GUI that looks like Warp Pipe or a MSN-messenger would be übernice. |

You mean uninteresting, not unique, and subject to language barriers?

Are you being serious?
What's so special about Warp Pipe's UI? Nothing... |

Yes, have the ability to stip away xbox/ps2 stuff from Kai, whould be nice..(GUI-wise that is), and would probably help in getting other Warp Pipe users try out Kai.
Well, you're right, there is nothing special about Warp Pipe GUI, thats the whole thing, its so darn plain/easy, that not understanding how it works is impossible. |

AFAIK, I don't see a point to it. *Where* is the XBox / PS2 stuff you talk about? IMO, it's only the arenas Arena/XBox and Arena/PS2, which isn't a "GUI" thing strictly speaking. There's little to none mention of any specific console in the GUI.
As for the confusing part, you'll get used to it. Just as you hovered over the icons in Office / Photoshop / Dreamweaver / Outlook / X, Y and Z to work out what the hell they meant |

1. Maybe. However. (personally) I'd like a GUI that (when I logon) only show what I want to see.
2. Yeah, people might get used to it, IF they stay that long.
Found the thing I spoke about earlier, KartGUI.exe ;P
Maybe I'l start making GUIs for Kai, if its easy enough (and if that option is not removed in next version)... |

Well when you say something like that, what don't you want to see Users? Favourites? Arenas? Pings? I just don't see what you mean by that. Like the only difference between the kaiKart and normal UI's is that one has a nice Mario Kart image in it and textual menus. If you want a custom UI, I'd suggest going through the source for kaiKart. |

Yes I see both sides here - but you gotta remember that Kai's UI atm has to deal with *everyone*...
The new release explains a lot more stuffin the UI, and hopefully makes things a lot easier for people - but we cant really hack out functionality.
kaiKart was a good demo - but was messenger mode only..
As for the WPP UI - yeah it was simple - but imo it lacked *so* many things that users who "get used" to a service need - and from what I can tell, the WPP tunneling project itself is now finished - ie no more updates..
To tell the true, I dont really expect a lot of warppipers over here - Chad has thrown enough crap about us around to convince the impressionable kids that we're evil - but as ever, Kai's GCN support is in there because *our* users want it - nothing else..

Double reply (to both dfunked, TheDaddy).
dfunked:
Since I will be a Gamecube ONLY player. I dont need PS2/Xbox stuff showing in GUI, same goes for PS2 ONLY, Xbox Only gamers.
TheDaddy:
Yeah, I'm quite curios about Next version of Kai.. Hopefully it will be easier to grasp.
Just went though the kaikart source... (hehe)
Forget about me making a GUI...
Can't tell either if WPP is ended or not, tabbed chats and other things promised have not yet come.
Saturday 16th.. let see what that brings... |

I understand that, but I want you to tell me *WHERE* it says those things If you have a GC, Kai Diagnostics only shows detected GC's. If you're in Messenger Mode, there's not one mention of XBox / PS2 / GC. If you're in Arena mode, you can't tell us to "hide" the XBox / PS2 arenas (that's ridiculous ). I'm still confused as to what exactly you refer to, because AFAIK, the only mention of a console's name is in the arena mode "root" arena, and in Diagnostics Mode where it will only say a console's name depending on what Kai detects ie. 'Microsoft XBox configured successfully'.

It's the same UI, few more icons, lots of fixes, lots more features, more help. If you didn't know, there has always been tooltips on every icon in Kai, making things quite simple. Not only that, but it's not as if we make the icons tough to decipher ie. we don't put a big red 'X' icon when you want to PM someone |

1. Well.... Must be the Messenger/Arena thing that confuse me..
2. And why not, just have a option, show PS2 areas, show Xbox Arenas, show Gamecube arenas.. |

Good idea, but it might not seem that necessary IMO. |

Just don't go into them
I mean, I could play MK:DD in Arena/XBox/First Person Shooter/CounterStrike if I really felt like it
(I'm sensing you dislike anything with the words 'Sony', 'Microsoft', 'PlayStation2' and 'XBox' in them ) |

Well, seems like you have a rock solid opinion about this (we don't change)
What I mean is, Xbox, PS2, GC.. Then NDS and possibly PSP support.
There will be alot of stuff in there...
Why have a program that show you a hundred things if you just use 2 of them
But I guess that is what we will have to live with Microsoft-style (lets thow everything in there even if they dont need it)
Tomorrow... Sat 16th.. I wonder what it will bring.... |

well the only thing i notice that is console specific is when you first move over to Arena mode.
and it shows, the console arena's everything else is just kai.
one thing that you will be able to do is select your fave arena's from the messenger mode so if you added the relevent console arenas's to that you never need to see referance to a console or game that you dont own.
Also it offers more in the way of help, for instance click on the help icon and it expands the chat, opens up a web panel with instructions, and puts you in the Technical support Arena. |

I see Neo's concerns about the Warp Pipe GUI vs. Kai. WP is much more intuitive. However, when WP support is limited to a single console and a three games, there just isn't the need for an elaborate GUI.
I struggled through Kai for a little while. I first set-up my GameCube which was plug-and-play. However, for whatever reason, I had to set up port forwarding to get my Xbox online. This isn't a GUI issue but did add to the disorientation / frustration, I experienced when first installing Kai.
djveeman helped me get a acquainted with the Kai GUI and we played a game of Mario Kart on Kai then on WP. In my opinion, the current version of WP outperformed the current version of Kai slightly.
Seems like there are some high expectations for the next version of Kai. Sounds like it will be a winner if those expectations can be met. |
