Anyway you can try and play a xbox1 game on the XLink Kai with the xbox360?
Your problem might not be related to the ping-limiter problem in xbox360 games, but with a network config problem in your LAN.
Most likely the firewall on your computer is blocking XLink Kai data from/to the xbox. If you have the same problem when trying to join a xbox1 game on XLink Kai, focus on your LAN setup.

A quick check: disable firewall on pc, restart XLink Kai and try to join again.
If that works reconfigure your pc's firewall using paragraph 2.4 in www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=help

Whats your ping to your friend?
If its the 360 version then your pings have to be under 30 ms.

UDP port 30000 is forwarded to the ip address of the pc running XLink Kai.
That is often needed to enable communication between XLink Kai users and you. Disabling/reconfiguring your pc's firewall has to do with the data going to/from the xbox from the pc. Two different things.

If you have shut down all the firewalls on the pc and still experiencing the same problem... Have you tried an xbox1 game? Just to make sure this is or is not the ping-limiter problem?
Note: Gears Of War seems to be even stricter on the ping value needed to game over System Link, some report it only works if that's around 20ms.

Try a xbox1 game if you can.
