with the linksys, port forwarding should work fine. actually leaving the kaiport at 0 should be fine.
What ISP do you have? |

You need a place to host it 1st then you type [-9img]http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif[/img] without the -9 in it and you end up displaying this

You really don't need to do port triggering with a linksys.
I don' think it will help solve anything.
If you leave the forwards out of the router and leave the kai port at 0 does it still not work? |

I really cant tell you why.
I dont know that much about it it must have all been setup by windows when I installed
Do I need to change it?
What do you think it should be?
I will be back after 3:00 P Central time as I am in Florida and have College to attend.
Please leave any suggestions.
PS Im going to get a D-Link router today for the hell of it just to see if my router is crap. (as per SS-funks suggestion)
Does anyone else use a WRT54G Linksys router and can use KAI? |

My cousin uses that same router and has no problems. I've also helped many people with that same router get Kai running, so I know without a doubt that it works. Your problem HAS to lie elsewhere. |

I have that router and have had no issues with it either, it's not my main router but it is a test one i use.
That is why i keep telling you that with a linksys you should be fine leaving the kaiport to 0 and not setting a port forward.
With the dlink you will. |

It's a funky home network setup that is his problem. I tried fixing things over RA, but it's just so damn hard with it disconnecting everytime I make a change.
Basically he has a DSL modem. This modem has default IP 10.0.0.2 and has one LAN port. The one LAN port is used to hook up the WRT54G router.
This router had DHCP active, as well as the modem. So I was seeing lots of conflicting stories.
I tried (and failed because of how frustrating the disconnections are), to get it as follows:
MODEM
- DHCP enabled.
- LAN IP of = 10.0.0.1
- DHCP server addresses from 10.0.0.2 - 10.0.0.X (how many clients you want)
- Virtual Server stuff for Kai done here.
ROUTER
- DHCP disabled
- Router is a DHCP client to the modem
- No port-forwarding required here I wouldn't imagine
In all honesty, a hub should be where the router is. It's just making life completely difficult :/ But he uses wireless, so I would have said a wireless router that supports PPPoA would be ideal, but a little late at this stage.
Will see how far I can go.. |

OK, the problem was finally solved.
He has a VERY WEIRD setup, but at least he doesn't need to get any new hardware. Basically, the port-forwarding was only set on the WRT54G. His Viking DSL modem *ALSO* acted as a DHCP server.
Solution?
I forwarded port 30000 UDP to 10.0.0.5 (this is the IP of the WRT54G).
The WRT54G then has it's own port forward from itself to 192.168.1.100 (the PC that runs Kai).
After hours and hours of trying to work this one out to avoid the use of 2 DHCP servers on the network, we we're almost there. But it just wouldn't work unless I was there to fiddle with the network settings. So we reverted back to how everything was and made those port setting changes and hey presto we were back in business.
Update: It does indeed configure his XBox
Update 2: We just played a game of Crimson Skies together.. so I think this is safely another problem solved |

Another way of doing this may have been to plug to router to the modem with the uplink port. Then the router acts like a switch and you don't have double NAT. |

His modem has one port only, nothing else. I was trying to find out how to make the router act as a hub /switch instead of a router, but considering he had it working before with XBC, I just reverted back and made the appropriate changes. |

When you said his modem had DHCP I assumed it could give out more than one IP. Sorry. |
