Well hi,

ive been playing xlink kai with my old xbox, thanks for that guys, but now i got a question to the 360 stuff and kai.

I read about an hour here in the forum and also the faq, but nothing could answer my question:
Do i get this right, that i have to direct connect my 360 to a PC (so with 2 network cards)? I cant use a router/switch (linksys wrt) between that? Or do i just have to set the networking stuff (on the 360 DNS/Gateway) to the ip where kai runs? If not, the 360 wouldnt know where the kai-client is running... you know what i mean?

Maybe i somehow overread that in the faq? If yes, im sorry to ask...
btw: Ping limit 30 is hard, im always between 25 and 35 :/

its the same way as your xbox only the 360 has a 30ms ping limit so if your over that its not going to work

That wasnt my question...

Well, lets say i have to following network setup:

Code:

360 ------ Switch ------- Router with 4 ports ------ PC
            /                               \
Old Xbox ---                                 ------ 2003 Server

So the 360 and old xbox are BOTH connected to a switch and the switch goes right to the router.

With the old xbox + xbmc it was easy to setup, to TELL the xbox where the kai client was running (it was running on my 2003 sersver) and it worked great
BUT
How should the 360 know, to use the Kai-service and NOT the xbox live service if its directly connected to the internet via the router? Do u now understand what my questions is? So do i need a direct connect from the 360 to a PC with 2 lan cards - yes or no? Thats all i wanna know.. Cause i dont get it, how the 360 should know what service to use if not....

you don't have to tell it anything .. just load the system link option on a game and play on kai ..

XBMC is not needed to play on kai , its just a UI .. you can disable it and still play on kai ..

system link traffic is not IP based so it doesn't matter what IP your 360 has at all ..

Mhh... so the kai-client which would run on my windows 2003 server somehow emulates an other 360 system link client then and the 360 does detect it? Well, looks like i have to read the manual and faq again... but i could swear i havent found any info about that Surprised

i NEVER said that and i know that it is not possible, YET.
But it seems useless... im trying to understand the technical way of xlink kai, but i guess you cant or dont want to answer my questions... or im just stupid. im a scientist and i want to know how the network stuff is working and NOT JUST plug in a cable and start gaming..

so my questions again: does kai somehow emulate a system-link network, so that the 360 thinks it is in a local network with many machines? i want to run the client again on my windows server which is NOT directly connected to the 360 but via switch/router.... does no1 understand my question?.....

take it easy on the attitude .. thats exactly what kai does .. the exact same thing it does and has always done from day 1 for every console .. kai makes your xbox think other xbox's all over the world are on your same LAN ..

your confusing yourself with XBMC .. kai works with non modded xbox's so XBMC is NOT NEEDED to use kai .. you can run the UI on your computer and navigate to games from there ..

Ahh k, i think im beginning to understand the whole system now...

Looks like i was really confused by the ip settings back in the days with the old xbox. i always thought i had to set it up propperly (the ip where kai was running) cause sometimes it didnt work. Didnt know that it also works with non-modded consoles Very Happy Ahh k, i learned something again Wink

Mh k, i will install the kai-client again on my 2003 Server connected via router to the 360 and im very eager to find out whats happening when i try system link with halo 3 Wink

Thanks for your patience with me Wink

Btw: My posts werent ment to be mean. Great application you created over the years!
