I really don't get this

I have an Xbox, and I've really been wanting to play Halo 2 online. So I decided to try this. I downloaded Kai and everything, and everything was working fine.I don't know if this has an effect on anything, but my computer is wirelessly connected to another one. Anyway, whenever I do system link on Halo 2, it jut comes up with the error message, and it doesn't connect me. I don't have a router on the Kai computer, but there's a router on the computer that's connected to this one, so I don't undertsand why it won't connect. And to be honest, I hardly know anything about all this ethernet, dsl, modem, whatever crap, and so I'd really appreciate some help. This really frustrates me, as I'm not able to get Xbox Live, and it gets boring always playing split screen with the same person.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and please don't direct me to the help section or whatever, as I've read through it multiple times already.

The pc RUNNING KAI CANNOT BE COMPLETELY WIRELESS.

Ok, well I just tried it with the computer with the router, and it still didn't work. I even lowered the firewalls and stuff.

halo2 gives you an error message!? .. where? .. you are picking system link from the main menu right?
